Re: A blast of winter above Achnashellach

You wait ages for an Achnashellach report and then 3 come along at once. I wondered how these 2 would look after the snow on Monday as I was up B.L.M. on Saturday and Sgorr Ruadh Sunday.
That Coire on the Bealach Mor looks imposing I will have to get back there on a clear day

Sgorr Ruadh - After the Lord Mayor's show

I'll be interested to hear from anyone who has done this one way and back route up Sgorr Ruadh. It is the one mentioned in the Walkhighlands walks list but most trip reports for it seem to come from Beinn Liath Mor or -one - from Annat. In particular (for my return trip) I am looking to hear if ther...

Beinn Liath Mor

Since I started walking hills and mountains just over 7 years ago now – Ben Loyal was number 1 and is still my favourite! – I have had me eye on the three peaks at Achnashellach around Coire Lair. For some years I tried to steel myself for the idea that you could get off the morning train do the rou...

Re: A week in Kinlochewe: Fionn Bheinn - never again!

When I went to do this one 2years ago I had intended following the pony track that goes from the east of the village, then branch off and go up the shoulder with Sail an Tuirm Bhan - not sure what the terrain is like there but I had seen a report of that walk. Unfortunately as I was walking to the s...

Re: Gleouraich and Spidean Mialach and Memory Lane

when i "liked" this earlier I didn't have time to post about what a fine report I thought this was. Two daftly remote and inaccessible mountains but I like the stories that dragged you back there and am glad you saw the geezer you used to know. I'm not a "bagger" and I'm not scor...

Re: Mamores cracker

Top report - and an area I go to each year. But I have to share your opinion about the soup. Baxters is the best you can get right enough but my mum (rightly) sent a complaint when they stopped making a wonderful "Cream of Country Vegetable" and they never even replied let alone send her a...

Re: My first red squirrel

Loch Ard is a Red Squirrel area. The sculpture trail there (it depicts the wildlife food chain in the forest) features one sculpture representing the struggle between Red and Grey squirrels but depicts it as a battle from star wars with the squirrels fighting it out with light sabres and ligthning b...

Re: Where's the picture ? - Scotland (part 2)

Thanks Johnny Corbett for mentioning Sgurr nan Cannichean. I think it is the next hill down the road towards Lochcarron but I don't know the name. I went past on the train from Inverness to Kyles 2 year ago and saw clouds coming over the top and streaming down the face of it and because of its sheer...

Re: Tomtain

I have often wondered what the path up to Tomtain was like and your report has made it plain. I shall probably lead my walking group up it as soon as I can fit the walk in (and perhaps link it up with the paths around Glen Carron forest). Shame you haven't had more hits for the report

Re: Bonnie Prince Charlie - My Part in his Downfall

Hope you have a good time Ciderpete. The only pointers I can recommend are to look out for Ben Nevis - it domintes the skyline for miles around being so appreciably bigger than anything around it (furthest south from which it has been so clearly visible for me is Meall nan Tarmachan at Killin or Ben...

Bonnie Prince Charlie - My Part in his Downfall

Friday through to Sunday last was the weekend of the Hillhead (sports club) Gentlemen’s Annual Walking Outing to Kinlochleven. Mam na Gualainn from Kinlochleven (1024x768).jpg Now I should add a rider to that. There are precious few who go that can still go walking....for several prefer to venture n...

Re: Albino Squirrel

Once saw a whole railway station platform of people (West Malling in Kent, waiting for the London train) entranced by an albino squirrel darting about in a little copse at the opposite side of the tracks. In a way it is sad that they stick out so much in what should be good camouflage for them.I won...
