Nice one, great pics.
Hard to beat a beer on top of a hill. This was Larven one late afternoon after a walk in from Kinloch hourn. :D

Re: Skye trail transportation

There's not so much hitch hiking in the highlands nowadays. Though the demographics have changed, you should still be able to get a lift to Uig or Portree where the bus options are better.

All the best :D

Re: Oban Bothy in April?

I'm not sure why the MBA persist with Oban Bothy, when it's unavailable a big chuck of the year. According to the MBA website the opening times vary from year to year. Not sure what the thought process behind that is with the estate. :? I also wonder about this though I get the point Essan is makin...

Re: Access from Dalwhinnie station

I think one possible future solution would be to build a path south from the walkers car park parallel to the railway straight to the underpass, but this obviously won't bring back the short circular route that used to be used by local dog walkers. Does anyone know why the gate has been locked at t...

Re: Access from Dalwhinnie station

Yes nothings changed.... ...and not likely to change for the better. If the locals who it affects the most have had no luck, no chance of folk representing outdoors folk affecting the decision. Cycling in, prob better using the underpass that the railway would prefer you to use, but for me use the c...

Re: The silliest sign you've seen on a walk?

Maybe not a silly sign but staying on the dog theme and very appropriate.

Re: Car park closures Glencoe

The car park is run by the NTS but I think littering is a crime. Possibly the police wouldn't be interested and I'm not sure what sort of authority or manpower the council have to deal with it....Good luck.

Re: 4 day (circular) hiking to Fort William not WHW?

With the issue of carrying a pack I suggest just pick a campsite and do day trips. Too much hassle arranging baggage transfers for every day. Some fine day walks can be done in Fort William and surrounding areas.

All the best :D

Re: Nessie where are you?

Great stuff dogplodder as usual. Love your reports from this area.

Re. the question about the best views, from loch level the view from Dores beach is hard to beat, but from up high there are better views, especially on the south side.

It's a great area, so quiet and rarely visited.

Re: The silliest sign you've seen on a walk?

Back in the day, when the Ballachulish Ferry was still operating, there was a sign - not silly at all - at Corran Ferry saying "Warning - this is not the Ballachulish Ferry". There is a story about that. Many moons ago an obnoxious man from weegieland, late for the Ballachulish ferry was ...

Re: Eriskay - can you get there by public transport with a d

And the answer is NO :( Use public transport they say ... That's a joke and not a funny one. Similar sort of crapness here in SE England, I am looking to do linear walks on Sundays using public transport at each end to travel to and from home. I've found out it is impossible to travel from Horsham ...

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

I don't think comparing the highlands with Edinburgh or the Lake District is helpful. The Lake District parking fiasco handed out over £500,000 to parking Eye before people decided enough was enough. This was to fill people's pockets, not for providing great parking or toilets. On another thread run...

Re: You support masts in wild land (allegedly)

Generally agree, although the reality is that many places some might describe as "remote" like Knoydart have fairly good mobile phone reception (and are not really remote). I find it quite amusing that, in the space of only a couple of decades, we've gone from a position where taking a mo...

Re: You support masts in wild land (allegedly)

By going out into a remote area like this you voluntarily accepted the risk that, in the event of an accident, help would be delayed. You have no cause for complaint. If you do feel that you require instant access to emergency help while out on the hills than could I suggest that you stick to more ...
