Re: Will cost of fuel curtail your trips?

I have a gas stove, so the increase in petrol price doesn't affect me

Mind, the increase in train fares does ..... the £12 each way tickets from Birmingham to Edinburgh seem to have disappeared for good :(

Re: Short trip Bothy ideas.

If it's an MBA bothy then no problem - we do provide the GRs on our website now. But if the bothy isn't listed on the MBA website it means we don't maintain it and it's best not to mentions GRs or anything on a public forum. A certain bothy not many miles from the A9, mentioned earlier, was badly va...

Re: What is Scotland's most Romantic Landscape?

Out the list given, Arisaig has to be tops - the beaches, the clear waters, the sunsets over Rum .....

But personally for me it's Loch Eilt every time. Can't think why

Re: The best way to get to Essan bothy?

Simply put, it is illegal to walk along the railway line, or to cross it anywhere other than at designated points - and although there is traditional access to the hill by crossing the line near the bridge at the west end of Loch Eilt and just before the tunnels above the Muidhe (both points have ac...

Re: Which mobile operator ?

I've always been with Vodafone and wouldn't change simply because IMO they do give the best coverage in the Highlands (and indeed other upland areas)

Re: Satellite Navigation Vs Map & Compass

There doesn't seem to be an option for neither! :D I'm rarely inclined to go up a hill unless visibility is good these days, but even in the past I generally only got the compass out after the cloud had been down for some time and was obviously not going to clear any time soon ...... Never even touc...

Re: The Cape Wrath Trail, part 1 Glenfinnan to Ullapool

When I walked from Glenfinnan to Cape Wrath in winter '89 - albeit by a far more convoluted route over 2 months - I just used 1:100,000 scale maps. Except when the map blew away in Torridon and I had to go on memory ..... !

Re: MBA Calendar and Christmas Cards - Photos Wanted

The pictures do need to have an MBA bothy in them somewhere :) But entries are welcome from anyone - you don't need to be an MBA member.
