overseas Friday

Oh well - time has certainly flown by - from planning etc etc. Friday sees me heading for 10 days walking in Berchtesgadden, Bavaria. Hope the weather has improved in that area. Its sods law, when I am at home it rains. When I plan a trip away from home - the sun comes out. There is no justice in th...

Re: The Hebrides

I considered myself very lucky to have been born and brought up on Islay. Never want ,and never will want to leave. Sure - its got its faults but the good points far far out weigh the bad points. I could walk it for the rest of my life and always find something interesting - from wild life to hundre...

Re: Pack weights - geek/OCD moment

Next thing you know you'll have a spreadsheet with all the weights of your individual pieces of kit, so you can get the optimum loadout for any situation. At that point you know you're doomed.... Arrrghh! I do that. I have all the individual pieces of kit weighed and I can tailor the weight to suit...

Re: Binoculars

go for a pair that gives you the highest ratio of lens/mag. ie 10x50 would give you 5, 10x42 would give you 4.2 etc etc. buying binculars with high mag and low lens diameter does not give you decent clarity. I have a pair of Clarity binoculars 10x42 and I can not fault them. I use them for bird watc...

Re: Donald Trump Hotel Axed

I WAS an SNP. However after watching 'You've been Trumped' my opinions have been changed. Salmond and his sidekicks should hang their heads in shame for allowing this bully to walk all over the Scottish people.

Re: Fleece or Soft Shell

It appears the the probably the most important thing will be waterproofness. Average rainfall for Berchtresgadden in June is about 5mm per day. with temp lows of 13c and highs of 23c

Fleece or Soft Shell

Going walking in Bavaria in June. Cant decide on a Fleece or a Soft Shell Jacket. I have never worn Soft Shell so cant compare them. Good chance of rain so will be carrying waterproofs. What would you recommend - Fleece or Soft Shell.

Re: Best tent under £100

What size of compression sack do most people use for the Banshee 200 to get it as small as possible The one I use came with a 2 season sleeping bag so is quite small. However, the Vango website suggests that the banshee 200 now comes with a compression stuffsac so may be worth checking out first ? ...
