Re: Sleeping bags for Scottish winter
My air mattress takes 12 breaths. If you don't have 12 spare breaths in you then perhaps the mountains are the wrong terrain for you in the first place.

Re: Climate change and hill walking
Indeed. I can see how the mass growing of corn, for US animal feed, is not an optimal use of land. In fact most of the "cow farts" (mostly burps, actually) carbon figure is also based on theoretical modelling of the growing of the year-round corn feed and doesn't even take into account any...

Re: Smartwatch
Aye, Basecamp is easy (and pretty great in some regards) when you have the basics figured but a nightmare till then. A forum recommendation is EasyGPS, basically an easy-to-use Basecamp alternative. I am okay with Basecamp so I have felt no need to switch bit it might help others. https://www.easygp...

Re: Climate change and hill walking
Marty, you claim that AGW has "massively out accelerated any natural warming". This is your opinion . Emphasis mine. And I'm stopping you right here. You literally cut the first part of my quote away. By removing the initial "The strong scientific consensus is..." you can switch...

Re: Climate change and hill walking
We have exported some CO2, but even with that our CO2 has reduced massively, the switch from coal to gas being the primary driver; and the bulk of China's CO2 emissions are due to their domestic consumption, they export only a faction of their emissions. China has every intention of having 1.4 billi...

Re: Climate change and hill walking
The strong scientific consensus is human industrialisation has massively, massively out-accelerated any natural warming. Here's the other thing though, the UK has massively reduced emissions, both absolute and per-person. The UK now emits fewer tonnes of CO2 per person than China. And China is still...

Re: New covid restrictions
So, 23 to 27 Dec is currently "three households, one bubble" and suspending of the local authority area travel rules.

It is unusual that BST has to be turned on and off manually. Typically if you have BST on it'll change from GMT automatically during periods of BST. Not a problem though.

Re: Ben Vane - espresso Munro!
Don't skip the Corbetts and the Grahams either btw. Instead of looking only at the shortest/easiest Munros why not look to some of the more rewarding other mountains? It's not even the case that a Munro will even be more of a climb, the Corbett of Goatfell has more ascent than the Munro of Mount Kee...

Re: Duncolm and the Slacks from Cochno
Nice to see a different route taken.
It's marsh year round but crazy after periods of rain. Tall boots and gaiters at a minimum, waders at worst.

Re: Few questions?
Your tent is okay but a bit heavy at 3kg and you should avoid wind given it is spacious and has fibreglass (prone to shatter/break) poles. Nothing you need to urgently replace but if you really start getting into long camping hikes you can always ask for advice for an upgrade (plenty of affordable o...

Re: New covid restrictions
I do not believe that to be precisely true, I would like some advice if I am wrong on this. People, be they based in England or Scotland are being asked not to travel between Scotland and England, however the two relevant local authority areas (Dumfries & Galloway on the west, Scottish Borders o...
