Re: Mixed Fortunes

A couple of decent walks there JK and a shame that you didn't have Dodd weather for the walk to Ladyside Pike etc :( as it is indeed a great round for views on a good day. When I did the same hills on a similar round I had your Dodd weather so grateful for that :D Great report with pics as usual :cl...

Re: Blowing the cobwebs away on Blackstone Edge

A great reminder of my time in that neck of the woods m.h with the M6 running through some of the wildest and remote moorland around. I once found an old brown clay fired 'bottle' on the moors not far from where the motorway now stands and oft times wonder who dropped it in such a remote place. Good...

Re: High Spy via Nitting Haws and Rigghead Quarries.

It really is a walk full of memories not only for you, Trailmasher. This was my first 2000 footer and second Wainwright, climbed with my late Dad on my first visit to the Lakes. It was 1968 and I was 9. We ascended from Grange with a similar route to yours. I can still remember him pointing out the...

Re: High Spy via Nitting Haws and Rigghead Quarries.

That's a lovely walk. I'm rather jealous. It s a walk I was hoping to do next week. Alas current restrictions cause our booked hotel to be closed. It looks like this will be the first year this century, and long before that, that we haven't been to stay in Borrowdale. Thanks for reminding me what i...

High Spy via Nitting Haws and Rigghead Quarries.

High Spy via Nitting Haw - 1.gpx Well, we were in Borrowdale once again just 2 weeks after we had to change our plans for this walk due to the nature of the weather conditions on that day to the lower, though no less interesting wet autumn walk and one that was scenically productive in its autumnal...

Re: Lank Rigg: Mother Goddess of the Earth

Ah! PP, thanks for posting this 'Ways to climb Lank Rigg' directory and could you advise date of publication please as I'm sure it would be a most welcome and wanted addition to every ones library of their fells books  Also thanks for drawing out my memories of a long drop off from Caw Fell and...

Re: Pillar and Haystacks from Honister

I don't know how I missed this when it was posted :( . What a great walk dav, one of the best in the district with a bonus of some decent weather to boot allowing for some great walking memories to look back on. It's always good to get in the hills and leave everything else behind for a few hours :)...

Re: A wet autumn ramble through Borrowdale.

Not really anything to add to Dav2930's comments. A really enjoyable visual treat for sure, and it really does show that one doesn't have to ascend an high mountain to get the full buzz of the outdoors, even in poor weather (and actually it doesn't look too bad in your pics!!!). Thanks for posting....

Re: A wet autumn ramble through Borrowdale.

Well, despite the dismal looking weather, those autumn colours are aglow in your photos TM. There's nowhere more beautiful, whatever the weather. Nice report. :) Thanks for your comments dav2930 and it is certainly a most beautiful place to be whatever the weather :D . And I do think that the rain ...

A wet autumn ramble through Borrowdale.

A walk through Borrowdale route.gpx This was a day when we were going to find ourselves on High Spy but the weather quickly changed our minds so rather than give away a day’s walking we decided to take a low level walk through Borrowdale and see what we could of autumn’s work before the weather too...

Hartsop Dodd, Stony Cove Pike and a rethink at Caudale Head.

Hartsop Dodd - Stony Cove Pike.gpx Seeing as how the LD visitors had thinned out considerably we opted to have a go at Hartsop Dodd, Stony Cove Pike and a return by the north ridge of Rough Edge and the old Caudale Quarry from Caudale Head, a route that I have done in the past, but new to E and Mar...

I hadn't been to this Place in quite a while.

Place Fell-High Dodd-Sleet Fell route.gpx E and I last walked on Place Fell in April of 2018 when a rogue fall of overnight snow coloured the fell tops in a sparkling white blanket leaving the lower slopes and valley bottoms to get on with spring, but today we have the splendour of autumn colours t...

Re: A very long ridge walk - from Threlkeld to Ambleside

Good report, route and pics done in great weather  and well done for sticking it out to the end but you may have to go back as you seemed to have missed out Watson's Dodd somehow  I did the same route the other way, Windermere to Threlkeld and stayed the night in Patterdale and finished a...

It's Monday, and I've got Sunday on my mind.

Arnison Crag-Birks-St Sunday Crag route.gpx It had been quite some time since I last did this walk, in fact it was 15th September 2017, almost 3 years to the day when we – Chris and I – approached Deepdale Hause following the course of Deepdale Beck along the dale that gave it it’s name, a long and...
