Re: A question on permits

The "camping management zone" should be more correctly described as a "camping Restriction zone" because camping permits are restricted to the designated sites in order to prevent camping elsewhere in the zone.

Re: River Lochy Crossing

If you did this route on Sunday then some feedback on the depth of water at the ford would be useful for others contemplating the crossing. A comparison of the depth of the ford against the depth at the SEPA monitoring station would enable walkers to use the SEPA website to work out if the crossing ...

Re: 2023 Temporary Closure Pedestrian Railwayline Crossing

Is there a prize for working out which walk this refers to? :)

It looks like it must be the St Cuthbert's Way section Wooler to Lindisfarne.

Re: Insulated jackets for kids

If you don't already do so take an extra layer for the legs as well.

When sitting around camp adding a layer on top doesn't stop you losing heat at the same rate through the legs.

Re: Golden Eagle near Perth?

I'd agree with others that it looks like a White Tailed Eagle.

The wings of this eagle look more "parallel sided and square ended" than a Golden's when soaring.

Re: Bit of pre-dawn and other Mullarkey on Gaoith and Mullac

Carn Ban Mor could also mean big blank space.

According my dictionary ban can also mean - vacant, waste (land)

Re: Strathfarrar Munros access

This is as far as you can go up Strathfarrar with a car. A car park is some 100 metres back. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@57.4271246,-4.6771988,3a,41.4y,227.5h,85.45t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1swLMEScvzL6W6CHet5Lr9Pg!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DwLMEScv...

Re: Your Favourite Views Thread

My favourite views are the ones where I can get a nice picture. I had planned a telephoto shot of the Cuillin ridge from Elgol but the cloud was blocking the sun. Went up the road to where I could see Rum, set up the camera and waited an hour to see if the sunset would be worthwhile. Took four portr...

Re: Are 'new' DWR's mince?

Could it be that the original DWR on the Mountain Eqipment or some property of the fabric prevents the Nikwax from 'sticking' to it?

Paramo was designed to work with Nikwax.

Quite likely!

More importantly, is it a Bell Yellowstone canoe? (I have a Bell Chestnut Prospector)

A Bell Yellowstone (I'm known in another place by a woody name)

That's the one.

It was so cold that day that by the time I had taken the canoe from the loch to the car there was a layer of frost on it.
