Re: Spitball of Glen Muick parking

"So where does it all end?

Why didn't you happily pay the £18 or £40 to park at Pen y pass?
It sounds like you could have easily compensated for that by "reigning in spending money on other frivolous things"."

THIS.

Re: Torridon camping

The campsite at Sheildaig is a cracking wee spot too, with great facilities. A pal and I stayed there in June. £10 per tent p.n. as I recall, and only a ten min drive from Glen Torridon

Re: 'Save Our Hills Moffat' - Please help in any way you can

I've turned 180 degrees in my opinions on wind farms in recent years. Used to be all for them. But after having taken the time to research the issue and read the propaganda from Both sides, I'm now firmly in the anti-windfarm camp. Not just because visually they look ugly as hell. But also because t...

Re: Morning all

Good luck for your walk up the Ben. No small undertaking for a 9yo.

Oh, and midge head-nets! Don't forget those. An essential accessory when wild camping in June.

Re: Scottish Cup Final

Sorry Summit Views, it may be Mickey Mouse stuff to you but for a provincial club like Saints to win both cup competitions in the space of a couple of months is pretty damn special. Understatement of the year. What Saints did was little short of miraculous. Great wee club and a real asset to the to...

Re: Strathfarrar four

One of the reasons I haven't done these four Munros yet is because of this locked gate / ticketing malarkey. So as I understand it, you need to wait at the gate for the landowner to open it at 9am and give a linited number of people a ticket. 25 I believe. Is this so? That seems to me to fly in the ...

Re: Munros with 'meh' views...

I expect you're gonna get the full gamut of answers here. I have to disagree with Jupe. I DO subscribe to the view that "there's no such thing as a dull hill". However, the very rapid caveat is.... some hills are are better than others, of course. I think a lot of people conflate the hill ...

Re: Ben Alder from Dalwhinnie on foot

I've always biked it, but from what I remember it's about 11 miles from Dalwhinnie to the branch off path down to the Allt a'Bhealach Bheithe to then start heading up to the Long Leachas. I would say I'm an averagely to fairly fit walker and would expect to walk that in about 3 hours each way, add ...

Re: How did you stay fit during lockdown?

I didn't. :(

I piled on weight at a rate not seen since I was in the womb.

The most exercise I did was long meandering walks from my settee to the fridge (about 12 steps).

According to my kids I'm now officially 'fat'.

Re: Duke of Edinburgh awards

I've never had anything to do with DoE or any similar programme, sadly. But have massive respect for any young person who managed to stick it out and who's made a better life for themselves as a result. Must say, though, any time I've ever seen young DoE'ers out on the hills, they mostly look utterl...

Map website

Can anyone help, please?

I'm trying to remember the name of the map website that does OS maps (at less than retail price?) and with free delivery within 24hrs?

I'm sure I recall WH'ers mentioning it on here before?

Grateful, as ever, for any help.

LF.
