Perfect winter walking day Part 1

Perfect weather for winter walking but the drive up to the start point was anything but. Thankfully got there safely but in hindsight I wouldn't do it again. Once the drive was over everything else couldn't of been better. Snow on the ground, up near top of first Munro for sunrise giving some brilli...

Snowy walk up Glen Falloch

Walked up Glen Falloch to do An Casteal and Beinn a'Chroin in a clockwise direction. Got most of the way up Beinn a'Chroin but with so much snow, which was up to my waist in places I was making very slow progress. Decided it was best to turn back and save it for another day.

6 in Glenshee

Walked alone, good weather with views in all directions the whole way round. Enjoyable walk although not the most exciting of Munros. 6 balloons got me back on track for my target total for the year :)

Meall Buidhe

My initial plan was to climb Meall Buidhe, camp somewhere then climb Stuchd an Lochain the next morning. Arrived at about 5pm and climbed the boggy but very straight forward Meall Buidhe. The forecast was for rain all night and the next morning so travelled home to enjoy the very rare pleasure of th...

Re: Is An Stuc a difficult scramble?

I found the scramble up An stuc easier than Stuc a Chroin. Neither of them were as difficult as I was expecting from reading some reports, but don't think I would fancy descending either.

Aonach Eagach

Walked with Ross and Arron. With good weather scheduled we decided on making the most of it and going for the Aonach Eagach. Found the ridge challenging but very enjoyable. Even went onto the chancellor. From end of walk continued on to Glencoe village and got a taxi back to start point to collect c...

My Nemesis

After deciding not to do Stuc a Chroin when on Ben Vorlich due to weather and a navigational error in bad weather on Ben Each. This red ballon had bugged me every time I looked at my Munro map, a free afternoon was my opportunity to do it. Despite constant rain nothing was stopping me get to the top...

5 Munros in The Fannichs

Travelled up night before and slept in car. Started walking at 4am. Cracking walk with sun and cloud inversions. Only downside was the walk back in, which was very boggy and seemed to go on for ever.

Not quite Carn a'Chlamain

Walked with Lucy during our stay at Atholl palace. Set off up Glen Tilt with a little snow on the ground. We got diverted around the shooting range as shooting was taken place that day. As we started up the main climb of Carn A'Chlamain snow got deeper which wasn't a problem. The higher we got, the ...

Buachaille Etive Mor

Walked with Ross. Fantastic sunny day. Needed to use my crampons for the first time since doing winter skills course at the top of the coire. Favourite Munros so far.
