Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

Can't accept I'm afraid. I had all the pics apart from the lady but remained utterly mystified as to the linkage. As my Christian names are CE and my mum was of catholic Gaelic ancestry and sympathetic to the cause I ought to have done better. ☹

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

I'm away on Granny duties so have some time whilst the little ones are at nursery. This hasn't helped me get much nearer to a solution. I had originally thought, on a cursory glance, that the RS may have have been the Royal Society but following the picture clue, I realise this must be the Rolling ...

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

Thanks CharlesT! The other initials are I think the E ight or N ine Y ears’ W ar, the T reaty o f N orham at N orham C astle, and the D ebatable L ands on the western part of the England-Scotland border? Will have a think about a puzzle. tim All correct. I don't think the Scots would ever have acce...

The R ough W ooing had as one of its objectives the breaking of the A uld A lliance? tim That is correct and anyone who wants to know more can se...

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

OK this is a very, very complicared subject. Yet, it boils down to the desire of one man to unify the kingdoms of Scotland and England under his or his successors dominion and to spike the guns of his arch enemy. Perhaps as he had been prepared to alienate a Pope, then Scotland would be a pushover. ...

Re: Wainwright books

The Fell and Rock Climbing Club illustrated guide to the Lakeland Fells is a good one. Well put together and covers hills Wainwright didn't besides all of his.

The Wainwright books themselves are a delight and were my ever present companions when I did my round.

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

Apologies, Charles. I have just started a mamoth task of digitally scanning my father's extensive slide collection. Lots of hills to identify although I'll probably pass on that and just preserve the most attractiveplus family photos going back to the 1960s, I have therefore only made a cursory gla...

Another clue then. The intent being that one union might secure another The Scots refer to the RW as the E or N YW . Its initials areWD and it is certainly better known as a work of fiction than a place. That should do it!

I won't rabbit on about this for much longer.
