Re: Mobile Apps or Websites for Walkers

I now use Mobec for OS data and AlpineQuest android app, works fine and am impressed with it, although still use Satmaps active 10 as main device and phone as secondary backup.

Re: Mapping software for PC

No, cant help as i'm still looking for myself. I have a Satmap Active 10 which is brilliant BUT their online routeplanner software was poor, even their new expidition version is not what i'd class as good, yes its better from point of view of creating routes etc but for printing off I think its rubb...

Re: blown back on Striding Edge 17/12/2011

True, when you cant stand upright with a large rucksack on due to gales then its time to turn round. :D I use the met office (basic low image version) mountain gale forecast on my mobile http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/mobile/mountainareadetail?area=Lake%20District They have got a new smartphone app but...

Can anyone recommend a good head torch, probably wont be used much, just kept in rucksack with rest of stuff for emergencies.

Re: GPS

It seems most users on here opt for the Satmap with the larger screen etc but i read the thread on it and noticed it was created in Dec 09 so my main concern is is it dated technology? Are there more advanced GPS out there these days? People go on a lot about 'dated technology' but at the end of th...

Place Fell

A good walk taking about 5 hours or so allowing for stops for food, drink and photos. Would have been good if the weather report hadn't underestimated the temperatures by quite a bit :D Was interested in why on the final return leg everyone passing us smelt of perfume and aftershave not good old fas...

Re: Scafell & Scafell Pike

Like the photos. I must admit i've never been up that way due to extra distance to drive round, i usually head up langdale. My favourite spot is the boulder field round Broad crag especially if its thick mist :)

Helm Crag etc

Helm crag, Gibson knott, Calf crag and back down the short cut into Easdale.

Exceptionally wet which added a good couple of hours onto time !. Coming down into Easdale was like descending a shallow waterfall.

A few other photos here
