Re: First Fail of the Year - Ben Starav etc.

Thanks for all the comments :) Great photos as ever frogwell, and a funny report that had me smiling. Hope your knee isn't too bad and your out on the slopes again soon - with new back-up lighter. :) I'd have gone with the fight story, maybe changed the shark for a stag though. Fixed my old lighter ...

Re: A Winter Wildcamp on Carnedd Llywelyn.

Fantastic pics! I keep hoping for weather like that when I do the high camps - never happens though. Do you always have your tent flysheet that loose? I always tighten mine up about as tight as I can get it without ripping. I might start using my little candle lantern again if it warms the tent up t...

First Fail of the Year - Ben Starav etc.

Unsurprisingly I was late setting off again and I didn't get to the start point at the bottom of Glen Etive until early afternoon. Still, I should have been able to tick off at least once Munro and find a spot to pitch the tent before nightfall. Or so I stupidly thought. After a short but heated con...

Re: Glencoe -B.E.B.

Nice report!

I'd been planning doing them today too, but decided against it when the forecast was for gale force wind. Wish I'd gone now!

Re: Sleeping bags

I've now bought the Rab Andes 800. Mainly because I had the webtogs voucher and it seemed the best value cold weather bag they had. I've not had a chance to get it outside yet but it looks and feels really nice.

monty wrote:excellent photos from an unusual viewpoint Frogwell. Are you in a microlight or paraglider?

Currently I'm in an ageing black office chair, but when taking the pictures I was in a Microlight.

Re: Ben Ledi on Sunday

So much for that competition! I suppose I shouldn't be surprised it was got so easily, given this is a hill walking forum. You win (the right to buy yourself) a bottle of value label whiskey - Tesco probably has some on offer :) Aah, you're so kind! :D Hope you get to enjoy Meall na Fearna soon: if...

Re: Ben Ledi on Sunday

Blimey, I didn't expect anyone to spot Uamh Bheag so easily - I thought people would spot the main Munro of the picture first. Although I suppose given the previous photos were of Ledi and that the last photo has all the windmills on it might not have been so hard to work it out from that. As you sa...

Ben Ledi on Sunday

Ben Ledi looked busy as I flew past on Sunday. Anyone from here recognise themselves? http://www.frogwell.com/misc/111218/111218f.jpg http://www.frogwell.com/misc/111218/111218g.jpg http://www.frogwell.com/misc/111218/111218h.jpg http://www.frogwell.com/misc/111218/111218i.jpg http://www.frogwell.co...

Re: Weather

Hit just shy of 100mph here at the bottom of Ben Chonzie, then my weather station blew over. Managed to get it back upright again but I'm not sure how accurate it's readings are now as the wind picked up after that but the station didn't record over 85mph.

Re: Weather

Glen Ogle's like a wind tunnel. Everywhere else can be flat calm yet the Glen Ogle station is recording a hurricane.

Re: Weather

Gusting to 89mph at the moment, according to my little weather station. Set to get worse in a few hours they say. Can't say I'm enjoying this, living on an exposed hillside as I do.

Re: Walking poles - are expensive ones worth while?

I have a Leki something or other and a Hama thing from Amazon which cost £8 - I bought it because it has a camera mount on top. Despite the Leki costing almost four times as much, I don't think it's significantly better.
