Re: Sleeping bags

That would depend on more than just the sleeping bag, eg how cold you sleep, what kind of mat is under you, what you have eaten for tea, how fit you are, etc etc. my husband sleeps hot and I sleep cold; in general I need about twice as much down round me as he does in the same conditions. which mak...

Re: Breakfast in the Cold

Malt-o-Meal. Probably quite tricky to get in the UK. Pretty bland too so a little extra flavouring of choice is advisable. Quick to make though and I think semi decent energy value.

Re: Waterproofing a jacket

Hi guys, My Goretex jacket could do with some TLC in preparation for the winter walks. Previously I have always used the Nikwax wash and wash in waterproofer. I'm tempted to try the Grangers stuff. What the vote, Nikwax or Grangers?! Either way I swear by putting the garment in the tumble on a low ...

Re: Sleeping bags

Thanks for all the information :) Can I come with you wherever your going ? :D Joking aside, the quality and feel of Rab's bag's make me want to crawl into them and fall asleep. Wish I could afford one ! I think the Neutrino collection have a colour coding of their own and the Andes and Expedition b...

Re: Glen Affric (1x3) +4 -1 =4

Good thinking there. I suppose it's common sense really, but I daresay it's in an HSE report somewhere anyway.

Re: Glen Affric (1x3) +4 -1 =4

That was a very good read, thank you, I enjoyed it. I often wonder why I can't take photographs as good as yours. Is it because I don't understand about the correct exposure, relating to light levels, or F stops, or how to focus to best advantage? Maybe the use of correct filters might help, or lea...

Sleeping bags

I thought Rab had a traffic light colour system for their sleeping bags? Red being for really cold weather through to green for warm weather. Why then is the Neutrino 600 with a comfort rating of -12 painted red whereas the Andes 800 is orange even though it will keep you snoring down to -21? Also, ...

Re: Webtogs Walk Report Winners - November 2011

Well golly gosh, I didn't see that one coming to be honest. I read loads of reports that I thought were considerably more deserving and I didn't think my modest bribe would be nearly enough. I guess all the other bribers must be way cheaper than me. Yay recession! Right, I'm off to see what bling we...

I hate it when the pilots do that! Screaming seems so unprofessional.

Re: Glen Affric (1x3) +4 -1 =4

Great report, and stunning photos as usual  I have learned to look out for your reports in order to see more of these photos Unfortunately, your photography is better than your maths. :( The correct equation should read (1^3) + 4 - 1 = 4 (read that as 1 to the power of three) :D I think I ...

Re: wild camp question

Most of my life I've lived in houses that have water direct from burns, and on a number of occasions I've had to remove dead sheep from close above the inlet. A couple of times I've given the water a miss for a few days as the cows would cool off in the burn above the inlet - the water would come th...

Re: Not quite following backwards in the footsteps of Kinley

Thanks for all the comments :) Frogwell, what sort of gear do you use? Your pictures are always A1! I've got a Nikon D90 and all but two of the above pics also had circular polariser and ND grad filters on. Not sure I'd be brave enough to make a comment like that on the reasons for the broken trig p...

Not quite following backwards in the footsteps of Kinley

The plan had been to recreate Kinley's one off each shelf walk on the Glenelg peninsula, backwards, with a high camp. I don't know why I bother with plans, I don't think I've ever managed to stick to one in my life. Not even this plan, and as plans go, it was pretty simple, but no, I messed it up, a...

Re: Grading system

having more such gradings could mean walkers rely less on actually reading about a route and making their own judgements based on their own experience and current conditions. I think this will probably be the case already. I get the point that giving people less "picture information" as i...
