Duke of Edinburgh awards

I wish to thank the DOE awards for the wonderful legacy it has given to the great UK youth. It gave me a fantastic opening in life to the hills with all the benifits this fantastic british institution brings. It opens so many peoples life in the UK to the wonders of the outdoors. Thank you Prince Ph...

Re: Music while you walk

Yes Simon-b its a great point, the silences and sounds provided by the mountains are as equally contributing to a great days walk. Naturally a wider safety awareness is so important.

Music while you walk

Hopefully soon we will all be able to get back to some great mountain days. On my walks I usually use my iPod which I find actually can add to the ambiance of my walk. My choices are eclectic and sometimes if I hear certain music or sounds it can remind me of certain walks. I wonder if any other fel...

Re: Recommendation required - women's trousers

I got my Wife some ROHAN stretch bags and a pair of striders. We both use Rohan and find it to be fantastic.

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.

Yes both previous posts are correct. I use gps equipment mearly as a backup, but never as a primary. The Map and compass skills - are first and foremost as are all of your points, both well made. Thus my point I eluded to in my last post - regular practice and execrcises in map reading are vital. GP...

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.

Map and compass skills are essential, without doubt. Electronic devices are helpful add ons but thats where they end. Map and compass reading, with regular practice and exercises uing them are essential. The WH route descriptions are also really great for the hill walk preperation. Hopefully soon we...

Re: ViewRanger/OutdoorActive Merging

O/S Map and compass, never needs downloading, no batteries required and always works. The WH maps with the route description and details always a super accompniament to proper planning.

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.

From wee Nic's blurry rules. You have been repeatedly informed, in detail, this is simply not true. If you dislike the government that is entirely your right, but please do not spread misinformation on this forum about the rules not being clear. They are crystal clear and you have been repeatedly i...

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.

Folk should not bend the rules or self interpret them , it would appear Northern Ireland are clamping down on unnecessary activity. From wee Nic's blurry rules , this is why folk are pushing the boundaries.

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.

Boris dithered about for two months allowing the virus to take hold, we are all paying the price for that now. It's not been any better up here. Scotland let people fly off to Spain, let people legally head to Blackpool whist "advising" them morally not to. Behaviours from blurry advice
