Re: Whats Your Favourite Scottish Island & why?

I could say that I like each one I've been to for a different reason! That's what I like best about the islands- each one I've visited has its own personality. You get that with hills too, but to a much lesser extent. Out of Eigg, Rum, Skye, Mull, Iona, Kerrera, Lismore, Arran, North/South Uist, Ben...

Re: 01 Schiehallion 30th May 2009

What a brilliant day for a first munro, with some fine views! And well done for finally sitting down to the walk report... that's one down, what, 26 more to go? Keep 'em coming! I'm the same... I've got at least 20 reports I intend to- someday!- write up. Some of them are from ages ago! I'm gu...

Re: Attitude Towards Mountains

I definitely share the attitude and the enthusiasm... not the desire to become a guide though (but only because I'm too hopelessly shy around groups for me to enjoy it!) although I'd not hesitate to make it a profession were it a viable option for me. But I do love introducing people to places/hills...

Re: Technology - Can You Manage Without it?

I'm not a big user of technology- no smartphone. In fact it's not been all that long since I upgraded my mobile phone from a brick-sized one that probably would have struggled with Pong-technology, nevermind mapping software  There's a certain sense of adventure in heading out to the hills arme...

Re: Bidean nam Bian - concerns

Well done Tenbob, sounds like a good day out!

Your GPS stats sound a lot like mine, it's a close call whether I spend more time standing/staring/taking photos or actually walking

Look forward to seeing some pics!

The "2 million dead fish" incident happened near to where I live. The news commentators introduced the story by saying: "The birds are down and the fish are up! Aflockalypse... or Aqualypse???"

Re: USA - Horseshoe Bend - Arizona

I look forward to seeing them Chris. I love the western US, especially Arizona, and I haven't spent nearly enough time there! Hopefully I will rectify this in the next few years. Some of the landscapes can be quite surreal.

Re: Anything ever go bump in the night on your bothy trips?

Not a bothy story, but when I was a teenager my granny lived in a neat old house complete with a secret passageway- the place was fascinating by day, but terrifying under the shadows of night. One time, in the middle of the night, all of the taps in the bathrooms & kitchen suddenly turned on at ...

Re: Beinn Tairbeirt (168m) - South Uist, Outer Hebrides

Impromptu walks such as this one are often my favorites- there's something special about seeing a hill in the distance, saying "let's climb that one!"... and making it happen 8) This was a great quick walk from the road. Further evidence of MC's destructive power: Pier.JPG

Re: Leeches(?) in the Green Lochan

Leeches can carry bacteria, but aside from that I don't believe there is any real danger should they become attached, as long as you don't just grab them and yank them off (despite having every urge to do precisely that!). It's best to just sort of get your fingernail under under the sucker parts an...
