Re: Gie's a swatch o' yer Fannaichs! Sgurr Mor, et cetera

R1ggered wrote:Well done. Great effort and one for you to remember.

Thanks, yes, definitely one to remember (and mostly for the right reasons  )!
It's a very special landscape, this - all the wee lochs are what really stick in my memory :) . Definitely worth the tough walk in and back out.

Gie's a swatch o' yer Fannaichs! Sgurr Mor, et cetera

...With apologies to the Chewin' the Fat team (and possibly everyone else) for the WR title. Like almost everyone else in Scotland this year, I've found myself with my original summer holiday plans kiboshed :( . One unexpected silver lining of this, however, was that we instead found ourselves in a ...

Pushing the limits of the day-trippable: Chaorainn & Bhreac

Apologies for something of a Blast from the Past - I'm only now getting round to doing some WRs from a couple of months ago. I'd taken an annual-leave Thursday in early August for a bit of walking, but I had some family commitments on the Wednesday evening and the Friday, so it had to be a day trip ...

Ciste Dooby Dubh, where are you? Soaked again in Glen Shiel

Well, I suppose this outing was the price to be paid for having enjoyed glorious sunshine the previous day on Sgurr a' Mhaoraich  ... I'd taken an Annual Leave day on a Friday and booked a hotel room for the Friday night so that I could get two consecutive days' walking in. I lucked out with th...

Re: A pearl of a walk on Shellfish Peak

This hill and this very route (right down to getting annoyed at the constant unnecessary zig-zagging of the grassy path off the end of the Am Bathach ridge  ) was arguably my highlight of 2019. I still dream about that day and this report takes me right back there. Thank you. Thanks for...

A pearl of a walk on Shellfish Peak

Well, 2020 is unlikely to go down in anyone's hillwalking annals as a vintage year :( , but with the 5-mile restriction finally having been lifted in July, I was determined to get some decent walks in, so I took an Annual Leave day on Friday 24th July and booked a room for the Friday night at the ne...

Re: Jock's Road out of lockdown: Tolmount and pals

My apologies, I've clearly done Tom Buidhe a gross injustice - I see that it has now surged up the Munro popularity table to Number 281 out of 282  ! Poor Carn Sgulain is now last :( .

Jock's Road out of lockdown: Tolmount and pals

Confession time. Back in my misspent (relative) youth, before I'd learnt to navigate properly, I made an ill-judged attempt to bag the six East Glenshee Munros from the Cairnwell Pass - i.e. Creag Leacach, Glas Maol, Cairn of Claise, Tolmount, Tom Buidhe and Carn an Tuirc. On paper it looks a straig...

A surprisingly fine outing to bag a Big Clootie Dumpling

Since an epic outing to the Grey Corries back in August, a combination of a prolonged busy spell at work and crap weather on the few weekends that I'd had free had kept me off the hills :( . At last, however, I found myself with a free Sunday in early December, and the forecast was actually excellen...

Re: Grey has my Inner Goddess doing cartwheels...

This report had me spellbound, not least because I want to reach the two western Greys from Glen Nevis, better half having an irrational fear of what the pot holey road from the south could do to his car suspension. I say 'his' when it's 'ours' because when it comes to pot holey roads he reacts lik...

Grey has my Inner Goddess doing cartwheels...

I scowl with frustration at myself in the mirror. Darn my hair - I must not sleep with my Bobble Hat on! I must not sleep with my Bobble Hat on! Reciting this mantra several times, I do my best to perfect my coiffure in the Glen Nevis Youth Hostel bathroom mirror, in breathless anticipation of my bi...

Knoydart Day 2: Sgurr C. Choinnichean (or was it a carwash?)

I'm rather belatedly getting round to writing up a couple of Walk Reports from earlier this year. This was Day 2 of a Bearsden Choirboys' outing to Knoydart. Malcolm and myself still had all three Knoydart Munros to do, and back in January we'd hatched a plan to book into the Knoydart Foundation Bun...

Knoydart Day 1: a dreich day rescued by a cloud inversion!

Another Bearsden Choirboys' outing, this, but just two of us this time: Malcolm and myself were keen to have a look at the challenging Knoydart Munros, but Tom and Donald had done them before, so it was just the two of us. We'd booked the ferry tickets and accommodation (in the Knoydart Foundation B...

Re: With Pam & Gary as they Compleat on An Teallach!

mrssanta wrote:An Teallach, a compleation and b Minor mass all in 2 days, how fab is that!

It was quite a weekend! In all honesty the b Minor Mass was just as intimidating as An Teallach, albeit in a slightly different way :? ... But I seem to have survived both, by and large :D !
