Oldest kit?

I was looking through some photos when I realised my favourite base layer, a Coolmax tshirt from the now defunct North Cape, is at least 21 years old!

And that got me wondering...

What's your oldest, still useable, piece of kit?

Re: Backpacking with a dog

Patches and I did 7.5 miles this morning. I'm planning 8-9 miles a day for this first trip. I mixed the terrain a bit, with some rough ground, riverside path, bit of beach, and even a mile across the golf course! He still had some energy left, although he's been snoring all afternoon  He has a ...

Re: Cairngorms

End of March is still very much winter in the Cairngorms: expect full snow cover on the higher hills and the potential for full-on winter weather. There are plenty of good options for lower-level walks in the area, however. What he said... But, this winter has been exceptional and there's been a lo...

Backpacking with a dog

I used to camping with my dog Heather, and has done since she was 15 weeks. But never backpacking. Sadly, she had terminal cancer at only 7 and is no longer with me, I have had dogs in between, but also had a campervan. Now I have Patches, who is a rescue dog, and has been with me since October last...

Can you not attach the tent to the outside of your backpack in a drysack rather than it taking up room inside?

I did look at that but it still left me rather short of room. I probably could manage, but as you say basscadet is a darling

Re: Self inflating sleeping mats vs old style foam types

Glad you're sorted.

For anyone else looking...I understand that Blacks have some rather nice inflatable ones by Hyerlite reduced from £80 to £25 at the moment. I intend having a wee look myself!

Re: Montane Prism Jacket

I have a fairly thin and lightweight Mountain Hardwear primaloft jacket that is as warm as a good fleece but also showerproof and wind proof. Being primaloft it packs to the size of a small honeydew melon and is very very light. The heaviest bit of it is probably the zip! It goes every wear, all yea...

Re: Conditions scotland and equipment in March

Given Scotland's ski resorts are having their best snow in years, and have more snow than many European resorts and even Sochi, I would say it's highly likely you'll encounter full on winter conditions. Have a look at the webcams for an idea of conditions. The Cairngorms were snowbound in blizzards,...

Re: How to carry a tent?

I have recently been trying a similar thing with my Osprey 40l atmos.

However, I've come to the conclusion that if I want to eat or drink anything then I need a bigger rucksack anyway

But good luck.

Re: Thermarest or Sleepmatt

I had a thermarest but didn't get on with it as I found it too slidey with a pertex sleeping bag, also as I camp with my dog usually, there is he risk of his claws going through it. So I switched back to foam mats. I have found that being bigger than a thermarest they are more comfy as I tend to rol...
