Nah, it was back in the Golden Age of the 1980s, back when we had real winters, and that was in old money. You could get into the cinema for a jam jar and sell your children as chimney sweeps.

Re: The Angry Corrie

Welcome to the happy world of climbing! There was an unfortunate person died on Ben Nevis. The rescue team, for whatever reasons, could not or would not retreive his body and it lay there for weeks. By the time they got to it, all his stuff was gone, including his clothing. In fact he was now wearin...

Re: MCofS consultation on vehicle access and the Long Walk In

And I remember those forestry tracks - thay are just not suitable for traffic. Even the big forestry trucks have a bad time on them. And of course forest fires are a big danger in summer. One cast-off fag-end and millions of pounds in damage, as well as loss of life could result.

Brilliant photos ~ loved the wind-sculpted snow especially. Looks like you bagged a day of perfect weather.

Re: Cold Camera

An alternative way to keep one's camera warm is to slash open a live husky and shove one's camera into it's steaming guts. That's what we did on our South Pole Expedition with poor old Scotty and Oatsey. Shame I had the only skidoo on the expedition. I could've been famous, but public opinion may ha...

Re: Microspikes.

I'm quite interested in these, they are a good halfway between full-on climbing crampons and nothing but boots. As ever, I put off wearing crampons as long as possible, tottering along icy paths because I can't be bothered puting on the crampons, then I fall with a clatter and hurt myself. After whi...

Re: Ben Vorlich

:D Shiver me timbers, the spirit of Nelson lives on! Oh, and get a helmet, those rocks are hard if you slip and get one on the noggin. Have I missed something here?? Unless the OP is planning on climbing/scrambling whilst on the hill, forget the helmet for a walk in the snow (never seen anyone else...

Re: MCofS consultation on vehicle access and the Long Walk In

a guy called Stephen Reid makes an eloquent case for access for an area in Galloway. Personally I don't know that area and I'm not a climber, but I think his arguments deserve some consideration. I am very familiar with Galloway, I know Dungeon Hill and Backhill of Bush well.I am a climber and hill...
