Re: Some North Western Fells
I went up Barf, Lord's Seat and Broom Fell the steep way from Powter How 2 days later. Barf is a fantastic viewpoint for Bassenthwaite lake and Skiddaw, plus it has a great name. I was up Lattrigg the day of your walk in the late afternoon and it was a lot sunnier than in your pictures. Maybe bright...

Re: Me and my mountain
That looks a good route. I still have SCnC to do, as we turned back near the top in winter conditions when we didn't have a rope with us and the final section was very windy and exposed with cornices. The Black Carls are also on my to do list, and I'd been thinking of combining them with SCnC. Looks...

Re: Record attempt: Slowest compleation, 14349 days and coun
I reckon I first climbed Ben Nevis in August 1979, but I only started bagging Munros on The Saddle in 1988. I've bagged at least 1 each year since (assuming I manage to get up to Scotland this October, having lost my May trip due to lockdown) and still have 21 to go. I'm also now aged 61. I'm not se...

Re: Which way would you choose to reach Mount Keen?
I did it from Glen Muick - a shorter but wilder approach that required a bit of navigation. Apart from the final ascent it felt much less of a tourist path and I remember a very pleasant stop by a stream crossing where i watched an Oystercatcher.

Re: Strathfarrar munros
We drove in late afternoon, set up the tents and drove out again, then cycled back to get an early start the next morning, on the day the glen is closed. Left the bikes at the end of the walk and walked back to the tents the evening before.

Re: Sweeping up the Tops Around Broom Fell
Useful report, and great photos as ever. I'll be In Keswick at the end of September, and was contemplating routes over these hills at the weekend.

Re: Jock's Road out of lockdown: Tolmount and pals
I did pretty much this route 2 years ago, but biked in to Glencallater Lodge and wild camped near the bothy just below Lizzie's Cairn. Contoured below the last 2 as I'd done them before, but it was probably harder going then going over the top, though with better views into Coire Kander. It's a grea...

Re: Trowel time
I have an i-Poo'd. Bought it for the silly name, but it's actually a good lightweight trowel that folds up.

Re: My Last Day in the Hills - Carn a' Chlamain
Hoping to do this one in October 2020 as my first day in the Scottish hills since the lockdown. Nice to see some autumn colours, as I normally go up to Scotland in spring or winter.

Re: The Marilyn with the Least Ascent?
You can actually park your car at what is considered to be the current summit of Crowborough, just round the corner from the trig point. I walked in from the Ashdown Forest to make it more interesting - rather pleasant when the bluebells are out.

Re: Winter - how did you learn?
My mate and I got Martin Moran's Winter Mountaineering book when it first came out, and thought it looked great but resolved we'd never do anything like that. Then we went up Pen Yr Ol Wen on a wet Autumn day and got thoroughly soaked, after which we upgraded our gear to the latest Gore Tex tech (fo...

Re: Raaaaaasay
Loved this island, and must go back. Sadly our visit to Dun Caan was just before the distillery opened, but I have a bottle of their first release on pre-order

Re: When do you count a Munro?
As I think the OP was saying, you set your own rules. I got some odd looks on Beinn Bhrotain by bagging the embedded rock on the flat plateau that Hill Bagging said was the true summit feature, as well as the large cairn. I haven't necessarily been that precise on all previous Munros, but thought I ...
