Re: the other way around

Hi Sounds a good way round, although I did like the final viewpoint which would now come much earlier in the walk. In my mind anything that makes this route less hard going would be good, especially the bike ride in and out. When I did this route I wasn't as fit as I am now but it took for ever and ...

Re: Aonach Eagach for Cowards

Great report - I will definately be doing the Aonach Eagach this way. The ridge has been building up in my head (not helped by bravado comments from friends who use phrases like 'its a walk in the park', 'there are only one or two exciting features' or ' its best done on a winters night by full moon...

Re: Disaster

Kenny - unbelievably (well how many numpties can there be out there?) I did exactly the same thing - I've kept this secret hidden up till now, but you've given me the confidence to come out! I was heading for Meall Bhuide on the other side of the dam to Stucd an Lochain - and to be fair the mountain...

Re: Beinn Narnain and Beinn Ime

Is the ascent directly up the front of Narnain quite scrambly then? I recently walked up Beinn Narnain from Succouth on my own and didn't find any of the scrambling dificult or scary (and I am easily scared and have to wear reinforced pants on the Cullin!). Admittedly the day I did it there was bla...

Re: Acharn Woods, Killin

That sounds like a good addition to the walk. When I did the walk earlier this year it was popular with serious looking runners who were doing all sorts of additional loops into the forest (maybe to get a burger!) The burger van is gaining quite a reputation - I know someone who travels a long way f...

Re: Midge Repellent

About ticks: This _may_ be partly to do with the fact that I'm a gaiters type of guy Given where ticks seem to end up on my body (ie. everywhere ...and I mean everywhere!) I'd have to be wearing an all in one full length gaiter! and Midges: New Discovery!!! Well by me at least.....Vitamin B1...worki...

Re: Midge Repellent

Yep - I'm also a midge magnet. I've tried Skin so Soft and I think it works because it makes your skin so slippery the midges can't actually bite (they still buzz about though), however it does smell ok so its quite good if going out somewhere where you don't want to stink of deet. The most useless ...

Re: Buachaille Etive Mor - Help please!

When I first saw this photo I thought the guy was holding an ice axe - then I read the subtitle and then saw it was a walking pole. Not just nutters but really stupid ones prepared to endanger themselves and possibly those who might be called on to rescue, or recover them after a nasty slip. Maybe t...

Re: Bus Route

Hi Highland Country Bus number 44 runs between Glencoe and Kinlochleven and has a fairly regular service. You then need to connect with the Citylink bus number 916 (Portree to Glasgow) which picks up in Glencoe and drops off opposite the White Corries Ski road - then its a short walk down to the Kin...

Re: Best of the best (help please)

Hi Saar, That's a bit of an impossible question, but here's a list to start: (maybe we should start a forum discussion on this! - you can use the search facility top right to find these walks quickly): The Quiraing Coire Lagan (to see the Cuillins) The Storr Coral beaches (to add variety) Ben Tianav...

Foot and Mouth disease

As you will no doubt be aware, there is currently an outbreak of foot and mouth disease affecting a small part of the country in South East England. News of this fills any rural community with dread and horrible memories of the chaos and economic devastation caused by the 2001 epidemic. All the sign...

Rubha hunish 15/07

We were down at Rubha Hunish yesterday - in glorious hot sunshine - where has it gone now? There was briefy a minke whale and one dolphin off the end of the point when we arrived, but they soon disappeared. There's only one pair of shags still with chicks in the nest too - see photo - all others hav...
