Re: Single Skin Tents

Steven, Just looked at the MLD site. I definitely like the look of the Trailstar. What does the weight come to with the inner included? I've experienced being fed to the midges before. ....never again! I need netting :? Also, what are the prices here after shipping etc? Is it really as roomy as all ...

Single Skin Tents

Happy New Year Folks!! Single Skin Tents......just how bad is the condensation problem? I've got big plans for the coming 2 or 3 years so I'm considering spending some serious money on a top quality 1kg 2 man tent. After a bit of research I'm finding myself swayed towards single skinned using hiking...

Re: Lightweight for completing the CWT?

Chorizo is always a must for me! Keeps for ages and makes just about anything tasty. Don't make the mistake of carrying loads of water. I had a titanium mug handy for grabbing a drink at the many MANY mountain streams you pass. Then have an empty water bladder for filling when you know you're going ...

Re: Scottish National Trail

Thanks for the offer but I've already ordered the maps. :D I found on the CWT, the Cicerone guide plus my Garmin was enough (although I carried the Harveys maps) so I'll do the same for the WHW. That way I'm only carrying 2 guide books (cut down to required pages only) and a few maps for the first s...

Re: Scottish National Trail

Guinessman, Just been looking at your route between West Linton and Linlithgow. You could be onto a winner there. I may be following in your footsteps. From Milngavie I will join the WHW to Fort W, then CWT (best bit). I can't see me having the time to follow the loop over to the Cairngorms so I'll ...

Re: Scottish National Trail

There is one by Alphaboy ,I think, of a stage by stage report rather than a whole trip. I'm planning on doing it in 25 days from next April 17th. I 've done my own research using this site, and buying maps. My plan is to do the WHW from Milngavie rather than heading to the Cairngorms and then the C...

Re: Scottish National Trail

Hi Guinessman, I'm fancying giving it a bash in 2018 if I can get the time off work and the wife allows..... Looking at the route, I really want to head from Peebles to the WHW then CWT. I've got no interest in visiting Edinburgh on route. I'm just starting looking into the logistics so I've...

Scottish National Trail

Why am I struggling to find walk reports for this? Is there still so few completed it in one go? :?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I've seen the videos on YouTube of the 2 young lads doing the trail but no written reports.

Re: one man or 2 man tent

Vango Blade.....the 1 man was ok for a few nights but I've upgraded to the 2 man for the extra space. I'm 6ft and can lie full length without toughing the ends. The best thing I find is that I can sit up without my head hitting the roof. Storage at the front for a rucksack and boots. I've been out i...

Re: Loops That Take A Week?

The Arran Coastal Way looks interesting. Possibly not as rugged and remote as I like :?

Does anyone know if the Caravan Site at Kinlochewe will allow long stay car parking?
So I can leave my car safe while I go off for a week.

Re: Loops That Take A Week?

Thanks for the replies. I followed the CWT from Glenfinnan to Ullapool this May and following stretches of that was always an idea, although the loop back was the issue. It hadn't entered my tiny mind to follow one of the 'alternative routes' back  Knoydart I love! The more rugged the better....

Loops That Take A Week?

April/May next year I'm looking to have a week away from work and everyday life. Does anyone have any tips on places I can park the car and spend a week doing a wide loop back to the car? I'm a big fan of more remote places so it has to be the Highlands. My initial thought was Kinlochewe. Leave the ...

Re:

What was your level of navigational experience before attempting this? I am looking to hike part of this trail next year, but I am still acquiring navigational skills. Not sure if this is out of my skill range, so any input would be appreciated! Depends what part you are doing? I used a Garmin whic...

Re: Sleeping bag rating for CWT in May?

I used the Mountain Equipment Starlight 1 this May. I think that is down to 3 degrees for comfort. I was always fine when in the tent. Chilly in bothies without the fire having been on. Frrrreeeeezzzing in Maol Bhuidhe bothy. Although the weather was awful, I was there on my own and I swear that pla...

Re: Stac Pollaidh - how hard is the scramble to true summit?

To me, it's all down to the individual and what you consider yourself. I consider myself a Backpacker or a Hiker. I am not a Mountaineer. I did Stac Pollaidh this June. I went to the saddle, dropped my daysack and poles, then proceeded to try and climb the west pinnacle. The moment I started to get ...
