Rings off on the Ring of Steall?

S and I have been looking forward to this for a couple of years. We were hoping some of our walking friends would come too but after reading the description of the walk and some walk reports on here they were put off. So only S and me, but that meant we were free to camp, so all ok. We chose this ti...

Re: Cricket on the Machair and camping in caves

Oo yes. This was a brilliant adventure! There was a thick layer of goat poo in some bits of the cave and it was quite soft to sleep on. Mostly fairly well composted. My head was slightly out of the cave so I had a proper starry view overnight. Check out those knees! It's the angle of the camera or s...

Groundsheet protector

What do people use as groundsheet protectors when walking light? I've just gone halfers on a Vaude Terratrio 3P then discovered I should have one but Vaude don't do one for that tent. I've seen other suggestions in other discussions but I value the wise words of the Walkhighlanders :)

Three Brethren from Lindinny Wood

You have to make the most of the weather - we might not get another summer like this for years, so my friend and I decided to grab a day locally. our_route.gpx We left the car park at Lindinny Wood at about 10am and set off up the wide path into the trees completely missing the beautiful old oak tre...

Re: Family expedition to the eastern mamores

Oo, it's taken me ages to get on here and say summat. A fine report Mrs Santa, but you forgot the amazing dragon flies, each one a different set of colours, and even up to the highest lochans. ...and the divers in the lochan we camped beside. I'm sure they were breeding birds, just one pair, and wha...

Re: Driesh and Mayar in wintery October

I'd like to go back when I can see what's growing in Corrie Fee, but there are so many other places to go too!

Driesh and Mayar in wintery October

Hooray, a day in the hills! It's been a while since me and my pals have found a weekend to get away from family and stuff to get away for a walk. We had planned to do the Ring of Steall, but daylight hours and other things made us opt for a shorter walk and since none of us knew this area we went fo...

Re: Fremington Edge from Reeth

I was wondering if you'd beaten the weather. Well done you. That looks a lovely satisfactory circular routed walk. I had a little adventure of my own doing a circular route round the field the cows and bull were in last week with a lovely swollen burn at the bottom and some very jumpy pheasants at t...
