The Munro swing of Lochan Uaine

After a well-earned day of rest to restore my forces after the Fisherfield "Marathon" , I was eager to get back into the hills, and the plan was to tackle Beinn Dearg and its three neighbours Cona' Mheall, Meall nan Ceapraichean, and Eididh nan Clach Geala. The weather was still very beaut...

Re: Walk Report Winners - July

Thank you so much for awarding the July walk of the month to me! I feel quite speechless, as I'm a relative Newbie here and English is not my native language. Thank you! Congrats also to Stefan1 - such amazing sunset photos, the colours are like out of this world, simpy wonderful, and nice animal ph...

Re: She belongs to the mountains now - one last time to Vorl

Very touching report. I much empathised with you when reading, as I know how sad it is to lose a beloved pet... :( My wife and I have lost our two cats Findus and Lola (Lola died this Feburary, just like Lucy) in the space of not even two years, Findus to an unknown illness, and Lola to a nasty and ...

Re: Marathon & more: Fisherfield 6 in 1 day from Corrie Hall

Fantastic report, superb photo's and reminded me what a special place Fisherfield is. I did exactly the same as you 2 years ago, managed to get back to my car at Corrie Halle just as it got dark so didn't need my head torch. I then drove home to Fife arriving back after 2am, it really is a monster ...

Re: And then there was one...Wet in the Fannaichs

Well done, and all the best for next weekend. :-)

It's amazing how green the Fannichs now are. When I walked the 5 Western Fannichs in the end of May, it was all still very brown and yellowish.

Re: Marathon & more: Fisherfield 6 in 1 day from Corrie Hall

Gruelling and gripping, a great report. Your 'line of recognition' is a technique called 'handrailing' in English. https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/safety/aiming-off.shtml Thank you. :-) So it's called handrailing. Good to know, thanks! That’s some walk! 😂 Thank you. I did a similar round in ...

Re: Heat 1: Fisherfields 7+2 round with cloud inversion

Amazing photos, especially the ones from above the inversion, and certainly a great feat to accomplish. Congratulations, and I don't think you need to feel bad for not having included the Beinn Deargs. Even so you were so fast compared to my 22h for only 5+1 hills. Sgùrr Dubh certainly looks ...

Re: F/F it can be done in a day!!

I am impressed to no end! 14.5 hours, how did you do that?! It took me more than 22 hours for exactly the same tour , so you've been a third faster! You certainly bear your name "Fife Flyer " rightfully. I had read your post before attempting my Fisherfield-in-one-day, but I hadn't thought...

Marathon & more: Fisherfield 6 in 1 day from Corrie Hallie

2018-05-28-29 Fisherfield_ACTIVE LOG035013-Erweitert_Grafik2D.jpg Finally the big day had come. The Fisherfield round was the reason why I had chosen to come to Ross for my 2018 Munro trip to Scotland. When deciding where to go next after my last trip in 2017, I was again and again drawn to this va...

Ridges and panoramas in the Fannichs

As the day before , I started the walk from the parking 6 km beyond Braemore junction. Two gentlemen from Cheshire had already arrived before me and were just setting out when I started putting on my boots. The by now familar track led me again to the new bridge across the Abhainn Cuileig. Accordin...

Re: One car, nine Fannichs

Fantastic walk you've done - 9 in one day, I'm impressed! I went up Sgùrr Breac and A' Chailleach (only) the very same day - fantastic weather indeed. You must have been up these two hills after me, I left A' Chailleach for the car park at around half past three. I did my own epic walk two days late...

Sgùrr Breac and A' Chailleach - a warm-up

The tale of these two Munros, serving as a warm-up for my 2018 trip to Scotland, is quickly told. The walk itself was rather boring, though with some interesting ridge sections and lots of nice views, especially given the beautiful weather. I'll let the photos speak for themselves. IMGP5431.JPG IMGP...

Blind flight to An Socach

An Socach would be the last Munro of my 2017 trip to Scotland. The starting point was conveniently located on the road from Braemar back to Edinburgh, and the walk itself not very long or particularly difficult - if it weren't for the weather. Like the day before, Monday started out with a sky cover...

By tor and the snow-white fog

After the beautiful weather the day before, I woke up to a sky covered in low clouds. However, the mountain weather forecast predicted quick improvement and clearing skies during the day. My options for the day were Ben Macdui via the Sròn Riach ridge, Beinn Bhreac and Beinn a' Chaorainn, or Derry C...
