Re: HELP! Needs suggestion on walks around Fort William

You could do something like this route if you wanted something a bit longer....

I would go clockwise so the boring bit would be at the start.

Re: West Highland Way and Steall Falls

It's a detour of about 15km. Only you can know whether that is possible, but it seems like a lot on top of an already long day. The route would be as you guessed - through the forest and along paths and road to the falls.

Re: Ben Chonzie from Ballindalloch

We were up that way a couple of days after you exploring the boulders the other side of Ballindalloch farm. I hadn't been up Glen Lednock in years and it was lovely, although there were a lot of ticks :? .

Would I have approved of the Applecross quiz, JW?

Re: How best to avoid being shot on a hike?

I'm sure I have recounted this tale on here before but here goes again anyway...…. A few years back I had a school DofE group out on a day training walk in the Obney Hills near Dunkeld in September. Let's just say that they were a "special" group, not to be let out along with the "ma...

Re: Opinions on Winter Walking Fatalities

For a variety of reasons, people have lost the ability to agree to disagree. Very few things in life are black and white or right or wrong so - to justify personal positions or take some imaginary moral high ground - people like to label those they disagree with. e.g. Brexit supporters being labelle...

Re: New kingshouse prices

Completely agree with JP. Right or wrong, £13 odd is just the going rate these days for a bar meal. I don't think the building is an eyesore either - maybe not to my taste but it doesn't put me up nor down. *sigh* People are either missing the point, or deliberately playing dumb. I can't work out wh...

Re: Bidean to Glencoe Village

From the summit of Bidean, continue to Stob Coire nan Beith and down to Bealach An t-Sron. A path leads down from there to Coire nam Beitheach and on to Loch Achtriochtan. It's a lovely and quiet path (relative to Coire nan Lochan).

From Loch, it's just a couple of miles along the Clachaig road.

Re: Walking around town with ice axes

Not done this with an ice axe but I have carried a solitary golf club around Edinburgh on the odd occasion without any noticeable effect on others. Dare I suggest that the appearance and demeanour of said axe handler is more likely to attract the attention of the law's long arm rather than the axe i...
