Re: Sgurr nan Gillean - on it's own with our wits and finger

I think the ‘tourist route’ is a bad term. It’s a serious walk/climb on the last 500m. I certainly felt the exposure going up there. The view back to Sgurr na-h Uamha is great isn’t it?

Re: Close encounters of the 3rd kind…?

Camped on hills for years and never once experienced a snipe drumming. And a boy fae Aiberdeen, I’m not exactly a toonser. A hedgehog in the tent though! Yes, it’s all an experience isn’t it..?

Yes, this is definitely the noise. I was at 780m so quite surprised it was at my level but also at 0130.

Re: Close encounters of the 3rd kind…?

No, it was louder than a dragonfly; it had noise that went from low to high, as if accelerating. Then would stop (silence). I’m just wondering if anyone else experienced similar. I have recorded it so can send it to anyone interested.

Re: Close encounters of the 3rd kind…?

No, it wasn’t that. Didn’t have one. It was definitely outside the tent and above my camp. But couldn’t see any lights or movement. Very bizarre.

Close encounters of the 3rd kind…?

I camped high on A Mhaighdean on Friday night. Glorious conditions and nobody else next to me. About 0130, I awoke to a very odd escalating sound. Initially, I thought it was a bird but as I lay in my tent, I located the movement to the left of my tent, then the end of my tent, then to the right. Th...

Re: The North Loch Mullardoch Munros - a cautionary tale

Ah Kenny!
Worse has happened to many more experienced before you, including me. You lived to tell the tale, and a day/night you and others will learn from. It’s the wee warning signs.

Hope all well with you now.

Re: Ben Rinnes

Such a great hill. Lovely photos.
I gave up footy at 40 when mind and body were not on same wavelength. Save your knees and ankles for the hills.

Re: Winter conditions on Càrn an Fhreiceadain

Did this yesterday; interesting wee hut just below Beinn Bhreac; massive table inside and a decent stove. One for a Winter’s evening.
