Re: Walking in the windfarm wonderland

What state was the road in? When I came up with Pete for a short walk to the loch the road was pretty dire in places, not encouraging an immediate return! The road is all right, we drove very slowly as it was a frosty morning and the surface was icy... But managed without any problems. Parking spac...

Walking in the windfarm wonderland

We first climbed Meall Mhor in spring 2016 (my old report is not displaying properly for some strange reason, need to fix it) and I never gave this Graham a second thought until recently. While looking for easy routes for short winter days, I remembered this modest hill, hidden behind the bulk of Be...

Re: Glen Orrin, Cul Mor and Cul Beag on New Year's Day

Our home turf :D Great little hills, we call them "our local Culs". There used to be a good car park in Aultgowrie, but the estate closed it when COVID restrictions started in 2020 - and it was never reopened. Sure, better if people park on road verges  We did some top-bagging around...

Ice cold in Achnasheen

It was Boxing Day but no force in the universe would be able to keep me inside a box. I had a few ideas for short winter outings prepared - just in case. Meall a' Chaorainn, a local Graham, was high on the list. We had done it before in combination with its larger neighbour Fionn Bheinn, but I alway...

Have yourself a Merry Little Wyvis

It was the first day of Christmas but Christmas was cancelled due to COVID. For us, it meant just the two of us, a Christmas tree and a fridge full of food. And of course Wee Lucy. She really wanted to go up a mountain on Xmas Day, even if it was only going to be a little one... We thought, Little W...

Beinn "Let's Have Fun" Fannaich

The eastern Fannichs can be approached from different directions. We had done the "classic WH" route in the past (bog, bog, bog!). Earlier this year we climbed An Coileachan and Meall Gorm from the south and Sgurr Mor via Meall a' Chrasgaidh , but Beinn Liath Mhòr Fannaich is too awkwardly...

Re: Sgurr a' Chaorachain sunrise inversion.

Beautiful photos. It was a superb inversion weekend!

We were in the Fannichs, An Teallach looked like a solitary island in the sea of cloud :D

Re: Bhreac-Bheinn and Meall Dheirgidh - where?

Very timely report, we were eyeing this duo for a winter outing. Not that there is much winter left on the hills now

Rising Damph

Ben Damph is definitely my favourite Torridon Corbett and I have climbed it numerous times including full winter conditions, but it is such a great hill that going up it for the umpteenth time still felt great! We had this mountain in mind the weekend before but ended up on Carn Chuinneag further no...

Re: Let it snow! Let it snow!

Many thanks for all comments :D :D Carn Chuinneag and Glen Calvie must be ptarmigan hotspots! We visit the area regularly and see them wandering around every time. Good to see them thriving at least in some places in Scotland. There was an article on BBC news earlier this month, about the condition ...

It is all melting, sadly... :( :( :(

Ben Wyvis still had some cover over 800m yesterday but temperatures are so high that it's disappearing very fast. +11*C in Beauly yesterday, +9 today. No white Christmas, I'm afraid...

Re: Walking While "ill"

Very moving tribute. Thank you for writing it up. It couldn't have been easy. part of your combined legacy must be the inspiration you give to so many more. My thoughts exactly. Many of your reports have been (and will be in the future) very helpful for me and Kevin, especially those on lower, less ...

Let it snow! Let it snow!

In the last days of November eastern Scotland faced Storm Arwen. Northern and western Scotland didn't experience the full blast of the storm, just the edge of the bad front, but it was enough to turn the landscape white. Ahhh, the first snow. We talked about visiting Torridon (always fun in winter c...
