I sort of have two categories for distance covered ie one is a backpacking distance which generally covers a lot of km's but less altitude whereas hillwalking day's out are shorter but steeper......that said both are getting significantly less as my knees wear out faster than my enthusiasm

I agree - Rannoch Moor in this weather will be well tricky. Also, whatever you do -don't be tempted to walk on the railway track - six years ago I was on a train that hit two hikers who were doing just that. But then again - in this weather the train is probably not running....

all a bit pointless anyway as the earths magnetic field is well overdue to flip..... what is the annual rate of field to grid (and vv) adjustment?

Hi Frances thats definitely an enthusiastic request! I really think you would need map and compass skills for the Cape Wrath - plus some careful planning for restocking food etc - some great advice on the net for that though - and don't worry about spending time walking through woods - small scale h...
