Re: Idea for future functionality: distance from...

Hi Colin. It would be great to do things like this with Google - we used to have driving instructions that worked to get to the start of every route. The technology exists. However, these days it's prohibitively expensive for a busy website like Walkhighlands to make the calls to Google for routing ...

Re: FYI

There's a gap in the fence (presumably gate planned) around 200m west of where the walkhighlands gpx went up; I've moved the route though may not be 100% accurate at the moment as not been to the gap myself - I'm told it's by the little ring contour at 670m. I've also just heard they are going to pu...

Re: Log in problems

There's no difference between the phone and laptop version of Walkhighlands - it's the same pages, just a different style. So as it works on your phone, there is no problem with your account. It does sound like an issue with cookies on your laptop. Since it affects multiple browsers, thinking it may...

Re: deer flies - keds

Though annoying as they are so hard to flick off, they've never bitten me as far as I know. Hope yours get better soon.

Re: Stalking In Glen Lyon

The relevant access officer is Dave Stubbs, email him on dstubbs@pkc.gov.uk or phone 01738 475347

Might be worth copying in Davie Black at Mountaineering Scotland as he is looking into the car park closure too access@mountaineering.scot

Re: Semi-invisible photos

Copied from the thread: I think it is because they are on your own website, which is not secure (https). Chrome has changed its settings so that non-secure content isn't shown by default as part of a secure webpage - because it can create security issues for viewers; I suspect this will eventually h...

Re: Stalking In Glen Lyon

This seems to confirm the signs, that responsible parking in spots mentioned should be OK:

Re: Stalking In Glen Lyon

That is what I had thought previously.

I was going by the signs actually on site yesterday. These seem to indicate that the clearway starts at the telephone exchange and ends before the layby.

Re: Stalking In Glen Lyon

To be clear, we don't think Chesthill's approach to stalking restrictions, or access generally, complies with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, but having just been to check the situation around the parking, thought I should post a bit of info here (will also update the route guide). The clearway do...

Re: Railway Crossing at Dalwhinnie

Just for info here, OS map from 1882. The level crossing is on the line of the old Thieves' Road (marked in blue). The track through the underpass - to the south - didn't even have any connection with that route before the Loch Ericht dam was built, so it could not have been the original line of the...

Re: Railway Crossing at Dalwhinnie

For more info: https://www.strathspey-herald.co.uk/news/anger-in-dalwhinnie-after-well-used-level-crossing-is-locked-246348/ Beside the hillwalking impact and loss of current and planned parking facilities, the loop walk is the only real short circular dog walk available locally. The article doesn't...
