The One and Only Ladhar Bheinn

This was a second attempt at Ladhar Bheinn for my fellow Bearsden Choirboy Malcolm and myself: a much-anticipated outing, more than two years in the planning - and needless to say, not much went to plan  ! We did, all the same, achieve the main objective, which was to bag this remote, iconic a...

Snoop Dogg, in the bag at last!

Stob a' Choin is the "Stub of the Dog" - not of course to be confused with various other very similarly named mountains in the vicinity, such as Beinn a' Choin, Beinn a' Chroin or Stuc a' Chroin :? - those early cartographers have a lot to answer for! It seems a rather uninspiring name for...

Ben Vrackie on a fine November day

Having briefly almost caught up with my Walk Reports, I've gotten a bit behind again: this one is from November last year  . Anyway, it was getting a bit late in the year for Munros (for a lightweight like me out on my own, anyway  ), so it was time to switch to Corbetts and Grahams - som...

Groundhog Day [again]: Duncolm in Second Lockdown

I'm sure we're all agreed that Second Lockdown was worse than First Lockdown  - the weather was worse, it went on longer and we were all well and truly Fed Up by that point. Also, there was that Groundhog Day feel to it all - what'll we do this weekend? Cinema, a slap-up meal and then clubbing...

Groundhog Day: Duncolm in First Lockdown

Strangely enough (or maybe not strangely enough), it's only now that I've been able to motivate myself to write up this outing from the depths of First Lockdown, in late May 2020. At this stage, as we all no doubt remember all too well, there were significant restrictions on our daily lives (well, f...

Golden Grahams! Meall Odhar & Fiarach from Dalrigh

Finally, life may be getting just a wee bit back to normal :) - in the past, I'd always liked to try to fit in a Grahams outing in early January to blow the cobwebs away, but I think this is the first time that I've actually managed it since 2019. I did do Duncolm from my front door in Second Lockdo...

Stob Breac in the bag, but Snoop Dogg left well alone!

Something of a blast from the past, this WR, from the tail-end of 2020. Second Lockdown was fast looming at this point :( : it was still permissible to drive outside one's own council area for a walk, but the official advice was to stay as near home as feasible. I had a weekend free for a walk at th...

Re: Fionn Bheinn - maybe not very pointy, but what a viewpoi

When we did Fionn Beinn in the 80s - there was absolutely no path - thankfully - judging by your pics   . But I do remember the fantastic views down into the heart of the Fisherfiield. I suspect it's probably a hill most people do on a "poor" day so not many see them at their be...

Fionn Bheinn - maybe not very pointy, but what a viewpoint!

This one finally gets me up-to-date with my Munros WRs that I'd never gotten round to writing up earlier in the year; just a Corbett, a Graham and two memorable (not always for the right reasons) outings to Duncolm during the two lockdowns to go  ... What with Second Lockdown, it had been a lat...

Re: The Beinn Dearg group: gatecrashing an unexpected party

Nice pics of an epic round of hills but I still get the cold sweats when I think about how done in I was after my own monumental round of this lot a few years back. I second that, for sure - it's a long day out all right  ! All the same, it was a pleasure to get to walk it in relatively fine ...

Final Fannichs! Sgurr Breac and A' Chailleach

I've finally almost caught up with my "overdue" WRs from this summer. This was a fantastic outing to bag the final two Fannichs that I still had to do, Sgurr Breac and A' Chailleach, enjoying the very end of an improbably good run of weather while holidaying with family and friends at a ho...

The Beinn Dearg group: gatecrashing an unexpected party

This was my third Munro outing within a week, during a very enjoyable break in a cottage near Strathpeffer with family and friends. Unbelievably, we hit a good run of weather, too :D ! Although the forecast for the Tuesday 31st August (yes, the last day of summer :? ) wasn't for the wall-to-wall sun...

Re: Conival & Ben More Assynt - Attack of the Cairn Flies

Cairn Flies, that takes me back to a similar experience I had in Ardgour, although mine were very much localised to the cairns; sounds like the leashes on yours were a bit looser! Still looks like a fantastic day for a walk, like the only clouds that could be seen anywhere on that day were the clou...

Re: Conival & Ben More Assynt - Attack of the Cairn Flies

Clegs were our bete noire when we did these two. It's possible the dreaded Cairn Fly hadn't fully evolved back then. We had more haze than you did - proof of which can be seen in your marvellous photos. Thanks for that! The Cleg is arguably a nastier beastie all round - clegs are a lot bigge...
