Re: Scardy Cat at everything or feels like it

I think it is helpful to only try more challenging stuff in good conditions. Wind is important as getting blown about makes you feel more vulnerable. When conditions are not so good stay within your comfort zone. It also helps a lot if you start off in a good state. If you are physically or mentally...

Re: Hello and plan to bag our first Munro this weekend!

Welcome to the forum. Have you discovered that the met Office give forecasts for each munro? They are generally pretty accurate if you look the night before or that morning. Not looking great for this weekend, sadly. We walked a fair amount when our children were wee, distractions seemed to work bes...

Re: The Elie Chain Walk

Great video of a fun walk. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. As you say, very important to check the tide times, we got it wrong once and had to wait for about an hour for it to clear.

Re: Company Aviemore Campervans and general campervan hire

The fact that no one on here seems to have heard of them would make me more nervous. We used big tree campervans a few years back and had great service and loved using the van we had.

Re: Advice needed - 2-3 days hike

To give you some feeling for journey times:- Edinburgh Airport to Perth approx 1 hour. Perth to glencoe, Fort William or Inverness approx 2 hours. Option for your last night could be travelogue at broxden Perth, basic but handy for main roads and only roughly an hour to Edinburgh Airport in very ear...

Re: Best Insect repellent?

I understand the standard rule is the more important one first - so sun cream first, then whatever else on top. Shame that you can't get one that does both, at least not that I am aware of.

Re: Clegs.

We were walking in Glen etive yesterday up sgor Na h-ulaidh. Lots of flies bugging us, haven't worked out exactly what they were yet. Got desperate enough to try some bog myrtle cream we had and this seem to stop them landing on us.

Re: Mountain bike hire or buy

There must be a place like the bike station in Glasgow. Bike station Perth is great, you can usually get something to buy that would be OK for similar price to a weeks hire cost.

Re: Advice on Glen Shiel trip

A bike can be useful if 2 cars not an option. Just be careful to plan it so you don't have to cycle west to east if doing the full sgs ridge.

Re: Shoe Advice

Is it possible it is not so much about the shoe as supporting the arches? Have you tried something like the supafeet insoles? Not used them myself but know others who have found them useful.

Re: Buachaille Etive Beag (Stob Dubh)

Did this last Saturday, no need for crampons or axes then, can't say how it will have changed since. Only significant snow to cross was on the first part of the ascent from the bealach going towards stob dubh. After that the path along the ridge was clear of snow. Don't miss out on going beyond the ...
