Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

On a similar subject to the original story. The North Face car park (for the ben) is now charging £3 for parking with no overnight parking for campervans or cars. That might put a few noses out of joint. The North face car park has been a problem for a while with campervanners and campers polluting ...

Re: No rail access to Corrour/Rannoch in mid-March

I'm tempted to turn up with a tent and a big bag of food on the last train and have the place to myself for a week. Then I remember that I could more or less have the place to myself anytime, and that a train escape route might actually be very useful. Hostel is showing fully booked or unavailable ...

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

Whatever way you look at it car parking charges are an erosion of access and affects the less wealthy folk the most. As soon as you start charging for car parks there are issues with payment, shortage of coins, no phone reception etc. etc. Twice now I have paid the fee for folk at the Sugarbowl who ...

Monkey Business in the Cairngorms!

Well done to Cairngorm MRT and all others who helped find the missing Macaque. It brought some excitement to the area and I was looking for it myself on Monday :D . Had to laugh at an earlier report from the BBC that stated the park sent out a team to confirm that the monkey was the missing Macaque....

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

It's a few years since I've been to the alps, last time in France I stayed at the Mer de Glace campsite (Chamonix) for a week. They gave us a guest card which meant we could use the free train and bus in the valley throughout our stay. In Chamonix there was a big free parking strip for cars and over...

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

We hear this a lot, as if Edinburgh is the benchmark for how things should be done    ......just because they do it in Edinburgh doesn't make it right, we should know that by now. I've no idea why the mess that Edinburgh and London have created is being used as an excuse to price less...

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

I use no such formula, there's a wee dookit in my centre console that holds about 20 coins, that's the reason :D . We badly need more infrastructure, aire style setups to assist the pressures in many areas in terms of overnighting, the likes of Ben Lomond needs a much bigger car park too, as do man...

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

I generally keep a stock of 20 x £1 coins in my car for this purpose. I'm quite happy to pay the fees, really genuinely doesn't bother me, even Succoth at £9, it's still cheaper than my fuel to get there. It seems a strange formula to work out what is an acceptable car park fee. I hope Argyll and B...

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

This is what people don't get. The SMC are the worst culprits but apparently representing their members wishes by green lighting parking charges across the highlands when there was never any need for them before. :? Please can you change your post. I think you mean Mountaineering Scotland and not t...

Re: Kinloch Hourn travel !

If you can't find a lift, I would suggest starting from Shiel Bridge. The Skye bus stops there. The route from Shiel Bridge is described on here. https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/barisdale-morvich.shtml#:~:text=At%2033km%20with%20significant%20ascent,certainly%20be%20a%20welcome%20sight. ...
