Re: Routine walk adventurous descent

Good write up for your walk. It's good to see some of these Hills I climbed many years ago, probably the late 90's. I remember having a great and very enjoyable walk along here. I did a long circuit from the Ettrick side using the Southern Upland Way for the return. The thing I remember best, is the...

Re: A steep climb but well worth the effort on Craignell

Hi Robert, enjoyed that, there are some cracking hills in the Borders. I notice your route was very similar to mine, one point not sure how you managed over 900m of ascent? I only clocked up 420m. Hi Fife Flyer, yes I used your walk report as a plan to climb this Hill, but avoided your outward rout...

A steep climb but well worth the effort on Craignell

$matches[2] I started this walk on the minor road to the south of Clatteringshaws Loch. There's a good parking spot just before crossing the Pulran Burn. 01-Clatteringshaws Loch looking to Benniguinea and Cairnsmore of Dee.jpg My route started off by following good forest roads past the quarry, and...

The Bainloch Hill obstacle course

$matches[2] For my next Galloway peak I'd decided on Bainloch Hill, as the weather was to be sunny but very windy...I thought that the approach through forestry would mean it would only be cold and windy when I reached the summit. I reckoned this was to be a short easy walk with most of the route a...

Re: Tick Central at the Falls of Foyers

I hate all those ticky things, had loads over the years, and now do all I can to actively avoid them. :( I can see an explosion in numbers over the coming years.

Re: Cort ma Law

One of my first walks on the Campsie Fells, though I continued over to Lecket Hill and down to the road...maybe just too far for you and your healing muscle. :)

Re: Hidden lochs and peaks in Galloway

Superb walk report in a superb part of the country.
Was along these hills a number of years ago with the Galloway Mountain Rescue guys...not needing rescued, but as part of the Newton Stewart Walking Festival, a great way to discover the rugged hills of Galloway. :)

Re: Access conditions getting to Mochrum Fell summit

Trees seem to have shot up since our visit in 2012. The prescient fasgadh (Richard Webb) commented at the time that it would be a good idea to get it done before they sealed off the summit. You, at least walked it and didn't put your car in danger. on the approach tracks. Hi Sgurr, I enjoyed the wa...

Access conditions getting to Mochrum Fell summit

$matches[2] Just writing this trip report to give an up to date account of the conditions when trying to reach the summit of Mochrum Fell. I'm currently in the process of climbing all the mainland Marilyns in the south of Scotland. All remaining hills for me are in Galloway, with a number of them b...

A beautiful Galloway day on Fell of Fleet

$matches[2] Weather was to be a beautiful frosty morning and sunny all day, with not a breath of wind. So just what I was wanting for a day to Galloway to climb one of my last south of Scotland subs. It was a very cold start, as the walk was in the shade, early sun being behind the hill I was to cl...

Re: Glen Scaddle: an adder and a fawn

Brilliant report Sgurr, looked like a brilliant trip. I love getting to quiet remote places where few others venture. Loved the photo of the fawn, couldn't believe just how small it was. I've never saw one before, but I was lucky to spot an adder in the Cheviot Hills, I ended up chasing after it to ...

Re: Least climbed mainland Marilyn

Thanks everyone, don't know how I've never noticed the hills by accent option before  thanks jmarkb exactly what I was looking for. Hi Fife flyer, I've been actively following many of your routes to find ways up these hills, and sometimes completely avoiding others, your routes don't always fo...

Least climbed mainland Marilyn

I've been slowly working my way through the south of Scotland Marilyns recently. On most of the hills I rarely see anyone else, and looking at the number of Walkhighlanders who have climbed these hills, I see the count is below 100 for many of them. Does anyone know what exactly is the least climbed...
