Re: Arran recommendations

As others have mentioned, the hills on Arran are great. If, however, you decide you would prefer a low level walk then there is a well established and way marked coastal route. It's too long to complete the whole thing in the time you have, but you could pick specific sections to fill a day. I did i...

Re: Sleeping Bags

If the budget is reasonable I would look at the Cumulus range, the higher grade down means that they pack smaller than say the Alpkit bags & are lighter, delivery from Poland is around a week (DHL), specifically: Cumulus LiteLine 400; -4C, 755g; http://sleepingbags-cumulus.eu/uk/categories/slee...

Re: Sleeping Bags

Have you looked at Alpkit? I have an Alpkit bag that is rated to -5C (limit) which I have been using year round, I'm really happy with it and it's been warm enough in winter for me, but the urge to collect gear has recently had me considering a new bag specifically for winter. I have been looking at...

Re: Suggestions for a mountain wild camp/photography trip.

I ended up going to Arran on Sunday and spent the night on Goatfell summit. Visibility was great all the way up, but as soon as I reached the summit, it clouded over and the wind picked up and stayed that way till I made my way back down in the morning. Obviously, it cleared up as soon as I was off ...

Re: Suggestions for a mountain wild camp/photography trip.

The Coulin pass sounds like a good idea, but I've checked the trains and it seems there's nothing on sundays which is the day I'd ideally like to travel up. I'll have to save that for another time when I can travel midweek. My first choice at the moment is looking like this route http://www.walkhigh...

Re: Suggestions for a mountain wild camp/photography trip.

The more I think about Skye, the more I want to go. Possibly get the bus up to Sligachan and walk through to Loch Coruisk for a night or two.

Re: Suggestions for a mountain wild camp/photography trip.

Hi Caberfeidh, Thanks for your suggestions. I'll have a look into those locations in more detail. As for Skye, that's where my dad is from and I have two trips planned there for this year, so I will probably try leave that one out. Although, there could be a decent amount of snow on the Cuillin whic...

Suggestions for a mountain wild camp/photography trip.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some ideas for a wild camp/photography trip that is doable by public transport from Glasgow. I did one last week which was an overnight camp just above the snow line on Beinn a'Chrulaiste in Glencoe. It was brilliant and I'm keen to try something similar in another locat...

Re: Bivi Bag (non emergency)

As Nathan suggested, the Alpkit Hunka seems a decent choice. Good value at £30 or £45 depending on size. I've just ordered one myself, so I can't comment on performance, but the reviews are very good. They also do a range of inflatable sleeping mats. I have the Numo, which I like. Comfortable, well ...
