Re: Lambs, seals and 3 miles of white sand on Berneray

Great report, many years ago I worked in Stornoway and had to visit Berneray and the other islands occasionally, and your report brought back many happy memories. At the time the primary school on Berneray had 15 or 16 pupils and only one teacher, to relieve the monotony for both teacher and pupils...

Re: Ben Macdui - fun in the snow and lessons learned

I was starting to feel a bit tense reading that! Glad you made it out in time. :D It's when you think you know the way you're more likely to miss a turning and it's more difficult in the dark. Returning from Braeraich in failing light my pal and I made a wrong turn in Rothiemurchus forest and added ...

Re: Lambs, seals and 3 miles of white sand on Berneray

And that ancient burial mound - was that Barpa Langass ? I was there years ago, and found it incredibly spooky. The entrance was a black hole which seemed more a presence of darkness than an absence of light, and though it was bright daylight and birds sang above the flower-strewn moor, it was more...

Re: Lambs, seals and 3 miles of white sand on Berneray

Hey Dogplodder, thanks for this lovely report, brings back great memories. We stayed at the youth hostel and had a wee walk on that stunning beauty of a beach on a clear, sunny day just as yours. Saw the outline of St Kilda on the horizon, too, and having previously met an elderly couple who had ju...

Re: Lambs, seals and 3 miles of white sand on Berneray

Sadly my dogs don't do the sea - they live by it and reckon the only good bit is eating the dead shellfish - or rolling in the bits that even they can't stomach. And no, they wont go in for dip to wash off the smell either! Yep, sounds like our two. Jack specialises in eating dead stuff while Tess ...

I wouldn't go in for too much of that kind of thing.

But seriously, for me it's the planning of these exploits that's half the fun! :D
