Re: pictures not displayed

That's great. Sadly it means the attack problem from Germany is back really slowing the site down again.

Apologies to everyone for this. We're looking into another way of dealing with it that won't remove photos for people living in the area.

Re: Donating by DD to WalkHighlands

Thanks all, much appreciated.

There is actually always a link towards the bottom of the page, but running something like this for few days a couple of times a year has a much bigger affect as people tend not to notice things that are always there.

Re: pictures not displayed

Both myself and Grisu are outside the UK. I wonder if that has something to do with it? Like others, I can see all your pictures. I think you may have hit on the reason though. In order to have a huge capacity and serve pictures all over the world, we use Amazon Cloudfront to serve photographs (and...

Re: Sent a PM but still in Outbox..

Messages are in the outbox until they are read by the recipient, then they are in sent. It's so you can see whether they are read or not yet.

Re: Can't Download a Walk

I'll try to explain what GPX files are. Walkhighlands provides GPX files. On their own, these files contain datapoints but they don't do anything at all. If you don't have some sort of app that uses GPX files to open them, then your phone may not even let you download such files; certainly you won't...

Re: Can't Download a Walk

It's a GPX file - you can only open it with an app that can handle GPX files.

Our own app is much simpler and handles all the files behind the scenes without you having to do it.

Re: Can't Download a Walk

You can't open the file I suspect because your phone doesn't know what app it can use to open it. You could just try opening the file from whatever app you are wanting to open it in.

Re: GPS Planner Height Calculations

I tried thresholding yesterday and it doesn't help with mountainous terrain like this as the steep gradients involved on this sort of terrain mean that thresholds like those described in the article would never apply between points as close together as you can plot. You are on to something with your...

Re: GPS Planner Height Calculations

Thanks - I'll put some more thought into this and hopefully improve further by trying thresholding - without messing up different examples.

Re: GPS Planner Height Calculations

Thanks, hopefully the results are now more sensible / consistent. I'm not certain whether thresholding would improve the GPS planner on here, since it is intended to smooth the jitter/wobble in recorded GPS tracks with frequent points. With our GPS planner you can't look at data recorded from a GPS,...

Re: GPS Planner Height Calculations

Thanks for spotting this and reporting - sorry it's taken so long to look into. There was a problem with the algorithm in that if points were closer than 80m apart then the ascent between those points was incorrectly given as zero - so plotting closer together gave less ascent, or zero if all your p...

Re: Can't Download a Walk

Hi Andy, the post above was about using our own Walkhighlands app which natively downloads walks. It sounds like you are not using that, you are using an alternative, the "OS Maps" app and downloading GPX files from Walkhighlands to your phone. We have never changed this but have no contro...

Re: Access from Dalwhinnie station

With a bike, I agree the underpass route is not a problem - but lots of folk don't have a bike (or if they do, a bike rack). It isn't Network Rail that have locked the far platform gate (as I understand it). We'll keep updating when we have more - it's impossible to keep everyone happy with a route ...
