Re: Kinder Scout - Boring plateau/fantastic edge walk

I second that! When I was a teenager Edale was the only place with hills I could easily get to (by train), so alot of my earliest walking adventures were on Kinder, Rushup Edge, Lose Hill or Win Hill. We used to camp by the farm out of the village on the road towards Jacob's Ladder. The Kinder Edges...

Re: Virtual Highlands

Mind you, the Snowdon summit area is almost photo real. I'm finding this a bit addictive  Better get back to work.

Virtual Highlands

It seems that Virtual Highlands works nicely for the English and Welsh hills.

My favourite so far is the summit view from Lingmell

Great Gable and Scafell look excellent. You can walk about with the 'W' key as well as look around with the cursors if you've never tried it. :D

Re: A newbie to this board

Hi Kev To update your Munros, look up ^. In the bit that goes across the screen just above the forum boards or posts there's a strip that says 'Munros: Map Update' etc.etc for other types of hills. Press update. You then have to choose which region you are updating your climbs for, then press 'Chang...

Re: A newbie to this board

Hi Kev and welcome on board! :D I do have a blogspot but perhaps better to share my wanderings with like-minded folks? Blogs are great, but the advantages of posting here is that not only will your reports be seen by regular users of the Forum, they will also appear as a source of reference to those...

Re: Wild camping advice sought

I currently use a Hilleberg Nallo which is a great tent but they are definitely prohibitively priced. Before then I had a really old Vango Hydra which was cheap when I bought it and it was a great tent - but when it wore out the newer models had become a fair bit heavier.

Re: 'Big Boy shot and killed

Yes. It's pretty pathetic to shoot a tame animal like this at point blank range - especially with a weapon that is not powerful enough to kill it - only put it into severe pain. :(

Re: ben challum

Good report Alan and a great inversion 8) - judging by all the trip reports there's been plenty of those lately. But where has all that great weather gone now :?

I deleted the duplicate pictures for you - if you have more you should be able to post them in another reply.

Re: Ben Rinnes

The weather here yesterday was absolutely appallingly wet and windy so glad to hear someone got out - even if it did cost you a glove

Re: Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud

Thanks for that Mairi and sorry about your walk - alot of Forestry walks seem to get really churned up at this time of year - especially if there's any work going on. Hopefully it will recover in the spring :D

Re: Gillaval Glas Round (half of) - aka The Germans

:D

I've only been to Harris once - and then was just cycling round it. We camped on Traigh Iar and enjoyed a perfect sunset - complete with dolphins leaping in the surf just offshore.

Looking forward to getting over there to all those wonderful-looking hills :D

Re: New Waterproof

I've worn Sprayway Torridon jackets for years but so many people keep recommending Paramo that I'm tempted for next time.

Hills in England and Wales

Walkhighlands is a Scottish website and we aim to provide the ultimate resource for walking north of the border. However many of our users (50%) live in England and Wales. Although they come to the site because they enjoy walking in Scotland, they obviously walk nearer home in England and Wales too....

Re: The Arrochar Alps - aka Bumbling About in the Mist!

This report proves words are just as good as pictures - enjoyed it :D . You sound very unlucky - I remember a weeks holiday based at Garve when the weather was mixed. Every night it poured with rain to end with a slightly drizzly morning first thing and then great sunshine during the day - so I thin...
