Re: Late and Lost in Mallorca

Hi basscadet ,
Really enjoyed your report , brings back lots of great memories. If or when you go again try the Cirerone guide books Walking in Mallorca or the Gr221 . Have used them myself and not had any problems on the GR221 and elsewhere in Mallorca.. Loved your pics ..thanks

Loch Leven (Swarm) Circuit

Sunday 2nd May , rain tipping it down . Sitting here with a coffee with a tad of whiskey thrown in , absolutely no desire or inclination to move out of my warm comfy chair . So with nothing else to do ( unless the wife knows better  ) , I thought a little reminiscing would be quite in ...

Re: Alt-berg Tethera vs Scarpa SL Activ

Hi IanEzzi , This doesn't really answer your question , but the wife and me are great fans of alt berg boots . We both wear the Fremington boot which is really comfortable and light , we've walked a number of long distance walks , ( 50 miles to 220 miles or more both home and abroad ) , and I can ho...

Re: Walking from London to Edinburgh

Hi Hannah, Whenever we go on long distance walks I always print my maps from the OS Getamap site , WWW. getamap.ordnancesurveyleisure.co.uk ( sub. about £18-00 a year) . By doing that you will only need to print out the map sections you need , it keeps weight and costs down. PS . Keep them in a plas...

Went to Mallorca from the 5th - 18th Oct and the weather was superb , just had two cloudy days ,and on one of those it rained . Mallorca is always a treat to visit , with so many fine walks ( always enjoy the mountains). We did a mumber of strolls/walks , the shortest being about 4km and the longest...

Re: OS Maps

Nowadays I nearly always print off my maps from the OS site Getamap , then just put them in a plastic folder . The beauty is you only print off what you need in either 1: 50000 or 1;25000 , no need to carry bulky maps . Always do it for LDWs , never had a problem , cuts down on cost. Subscription ab...

Pennine Way . Part 2 Keld to Kirk Yetholm

DSCF5772.JPG Day 1 Berwick upon Tweed to Kirkby Stephen Set off from Forfar and drove down to Berwick to catch the train to Kirkby Stephen . The reason we went from Berwick to Kirkby Stephen was twofold...Firstly there is no train station at Keld and the bus service is erratic . So the idea was to ...

Re: music and headphones on the hills

Don't usually take music with me when walking , just love listening to the wife's dulcet tones ( I think that's what she calls them ). I believe that ....." The hills are alive with the sound of music , with songs they have played for a thousand years"...........hang on , I think I may hav...

Re: Giving advice to folk planning things they maybe shouldn

I remember while walking the Pennine way and stopping for a coffee with the wife , a group of young lads led by two older guys came up to us , one of the older guys asked us where we were and how many miles had they walked since leaving Edale , I showed them on their map that we were at snake pass a...

Hi Nicki , Been living up in Scotland for best part of 35 years , moved up from west Sussex , just along the road from you. In all that time except for the last four years only used compass plus OS. Re: A visit to the Eildons.

Great little hills to walk , I remember walking St Cuthberts Way and seeing them from the top of Wideopen Hill knowing that Melrose was just the other side , Two days later we were on them , that was April 2011 temps of 22c

Plus there are things to see in the woods at night.
Thanks for report.
