Re: The family life of gulls :)

I like gulls as well, especially on a summer's day when they appear to gleam as they glide across the sky!

re. the rings - maybe they're studying distribution of them - recording how far they travel from where they were ringed?

Re: The Way to the Isles

There's no reason why we can't have these paths, and still have more wilderness areas for more challenging walks as well. As someone who isn't very fit because of a medical condition I've had for 20 years, I use the low level walks as a way of getting out there and still enjoying the outdoors, plus ...

Re: doing them all

I think I just managed to prove what an anorak I am by sending them a copy of my spreadsheet with the dates for each mountain. I trust your spreadsheet list was suitably cross referenced and presented in a chronological, then alphabetical and then height order with suitable date, time and fu...

The Way to the Isles

I like the sound of that new proposed trail from Tyndrum to Oban. I particularly like the idea of extending it across to Mull and Iona - in summer that would be a phenomenal way to finish the trail, with the potential of white-tailed eagles soaring overhead and otters alongside the shore.

Re: Peregrine falcon on the Devon coast

first photo does indeed look like a peregrine shame its a bit out of focus but at least you got to see it in the flesh!! yet to see a wild peregrine, i have however seen one at the falconry display at dunrobin castle well worth a visit if you are up that way :D If you are in the central belt, I rec...

Otters and badgers killed on the road too? That's really sad news.

Re: A visit to Lunga

Cheers Morag , Chris and Lenore , glad you enjoyed the pics :D Did you see any Manx shearwaters when you were travelling there? Unfortunately not a shearwater in sight ,the boat trip itself was very quiet , a few Kittiwake, Fulmar and Gannet as well as the usual gulls , maybe they were further out ...

Beinn Eighe

I've read the news story here and elsewhere about Beinn Eighe possibly losing Unesco status. I find this to be a strange state of affairs - how can a mountain area suddenly lose this status? Have they changed the criteria, has there been any development in the area or damage to parts of it that allo...

Re: Munro..

I'm a big fan of Beinn Dorain at Bridge of Orchy. Partly this is because it's so accessible, and the hotel is a great place to get some food and a drink after a good walk. And if you were feeling fit enough, do Beinn an Dothaidh at the same time - they're often done together. For a low-level walk, w...

Re: A visit to Lunga

That's one of my favourite places. I've been to the Farne Islands, but the puffins there are much more wary of people, but on Lunga you really can get very close to them - although as always with wildlife, it's best to let them get close to you instead! I'm taking a whale-watching trip out from Oban...

Re: Ailsa Craig, Bird Sanctuary

It's great seeing the path up to the top, it must be one of the least walked paths in Scotland I would say. When I landed from the boat from Girvan, we were only given an hour on the island, so there wasn't enough time to walk up the path, although maybe if they did more than one trip a day they'd a...

Re: A bit of a rant

I don't mind having skiing facilities on the hills, but it would be great if we could have buildings that were architecturally very smart, blending into their environment rather then blighting it. I like seeing buildings that contain lots of curves to help make them work with their surroundings rath...
