Re: ironing board

I am impressed with the man who carried a 100kg barbell to the summit, that requires some very good strength and endurance.

Re: Long distance walking - what's the equivalent of a munro

Do we care that much about height, or is it about what you can see from the top..? Is it about challenge? elevation? elevation gain...? For me personally, only to the extent of getting a nice expensive view, which is more likely the higher you walk on average although beautiful scenery can easily b...

I challenge that assertion unless you have an extreme definition of being right.

Re: Car park closures Glencoe

The other side of the coin being that if the government had said it was fine to go hiking up mountains, you can guarentee tons of people would have been flocking to the honeypot routes and whacked up the risk of transmission in places to a level comparable with other social activities where populat...

Re: Car park closures Glencoe

I had been a member of Mountaineering Scotland for 12 years since doing my SPA course. In that time I found them more aligned to government policy rather than fighting for hill Walker's rights. The final straw for me was the covid reaction, the stance made no sense and they remained silent when the...

You've sold it to me for the views at the very least.

Bristly ridge access

Last time I planned to go up Bristly ridge I couldn't find a good way up and ended up turning back. I have had a look on Google Earth and think I can see the correct route, but wanted to check on here:

Is the red line the correct route?

Re: Left behind and thrown away rubbish.

I object to the posts in here attacking motorists, mostly from one contributor obviously working off some grievance or other. It's a sad reality, that a lot of people are litter louts! FTFY. It is not motorists, it is people, it just happens that the majority of journeys are by car especially in sp...

Do you mean it can be a bit crumbly and can break off in your hand, so test it before putting your weight on it?

Re: Liathach, how hard?

Thanks for the responses. It sounds like something I could at least have a go at, the worst that can happen is I turn back, but from a YouTube video of the route I saw recently the views along the ridge and across to nearby peaks looked fantastic, so even if I bottled it I will have enjoyed some ver...

Liathach, how hard?

One of my plans when I go to NW Scotland next year is to do the Liathach ridge. I thought this might be a way to up my scrambling experience a little beyond grade 1 but without being overwhelming. I wanted to check on here how hard the pinnacles are and whether they can be traversed solo without a r...

Re: Left behind and thrown away rubbish.

Irresponsible tourism is not confined to the UK, see this report from America where they have a term for such people ("tourons").

Re: Left behind and thrown away rubbish.

The useless things are compulsory on new bikes and nobody, myself included bothers to take them off. I will now! Not all reflectors on bikes are useless. Once when I was driving home in the dark from my former workplace on an unlit NSL single carriageway main road, I came up behind a cyclist with n...

Re: Left behind and thrown away rubbish.

I'm glad to say that I very rarely find litter on the hill. Sometimes I will do my bit and pick up a discarded soft drinks can or bottle. One of the most irritating instances of littering on the hill that I have encountered in recent years was a trail of pistachio shells that I followed all the way...
