Re: Ben Aden by bike - Lock Quoich old hydro track

I would have seriously considered kayaking to the dam - but on the day I chose it was ridiculously windy so I walked it - thoroughly enjoyed it - but def not something I'd have considered MTB-ing!

Re: Where's the picture ? - Scotland (part 3)

I'm at the northernmost tip of my island...

There is a ferry to the mainland just a short distance to the east.

This area is very popular with sailing boats...

In the absence of any fast responses....

I'm on an island and not a long way from the mainland

Thanks Rockhopper.
I loved Ben Aden - I recognised the chunky cairn, though not the views as I didn’t get any when I was there.

How about this somewhat tick-ridden camping spot with lovely peaceful views and a composting toilet

Re: A splendid sea journey with a bonus lesser-spotted Maril

Thanks Mal Grey. Yes - the perspective from the water is a totally different one - and so fantastic. It just gives us another hugely long list of places to enjoy and explore :D I agree about the west coast - it really is very special. Interestingly the west side of the Bishop Isles is quite differen...

Re: A splendid sea journey with a bonus lesser-spotted Maril

Thanks Rockhopper - yes you should definitely get back over to Barra - and then up to South Uist for those 2 Grahams!!

Hope your shoulder is improving and you can get back out into the hills etc soon.

Re: A splendid sea journey with a bonus lesser-spotted Maril

Thanks AnneC - not too late to take up kayaking :D

We got to Pabbay - and we could see Mingulay and Berneray but didn't travel out to them - this time!

Always another reason to go back to these beautiful islands.

Re: A splendid sea journey with a bonus lesser-spotted Maril

Haha!! Gear review: Palm Gradient boots - actually pretty grippy on rock; not so good on steep slippy muddy grass... Drysuit: would have been a fantastic choice in heavy rain; not terribly breathable in drier weather. Spraydeck - probably surplus to requirements and could prove awkward when scrambli...

Re: A splendid sea journey with a bonus lesser-spotted Maril

Don't rule it out Weasel - I'm a late starter to kayaking and would never have imagined how much fun it could be.
It's also another means of getting to the hills and a great next venture for when your legs start to wear out from all of the walking!!

A splendid sea journey with a bonus lesser-spotted Marilyn

Well despite being a tremendously enthusiastic hill bagger for the last 12 years, I've never actually posted a walk report on WH. And TBH I would never have expected to be posting one as part of a much anticipated sea kayaking trip to the Outer Hebrides. I absolutely love the Outer Hebs, and I've ma...
