Re: Redemption at Vorlich & Co

Thanks, Yeah, it’s regrettable but sometimes the about-turn has to be done. In this case I was more confident as I could properly assess Stuc’s prow on the approach. A path wasn’t visible from afar but is apparent once you clear the boulderfield. After the scramble the path is fairly straightforward...

Redemption at Vorlich & Co

I was more than happy to revisit this area after an abandoned effort last year due to high winds, horizontal rain and limited visibility in August last year. I made a summit that time with my friend on Ben Vorlich only and it wasn’t even a debate whether Stuc a’Chroin were to get done once on the to...

Lochnagar Loop

With alleged good weather in store and some holidays due at work had me poring over the maps to fit in some new hillwalking routes late on last week. I travelled up on the Friday and stayed at Ballater’s hostel having already done the duo of Driesh and Mayar earlier that morning before heading out t...

Re: Seventh Heaven: South Glen Shiel Ridge

Thanks, Graeme. A day that’ll live long in the memory for me. One of those ones I’d gladly revisit in years further down the line.

Seventh Heaven: South Glen Shiel Ridge

With a four hour drive bookending either side of the epic South Glen Shiel Ridge walk from Ayrshire, it was decided to best arrive the night before and stay at a nearby hostel at Loch Ness. Jordan and myself had done a few hills together before but were delighted to welcome a friend down from Ullapo...

Glee at the ‘Shee: On Cloud 9!

It was more a case of playing it by ear rather than it being set in stone as I arrived at the Glenshee Ski Centre with my ultimate aim for the day of doing the 9 Glenshee munros. There are various permutations of doing these munros into smaller days out with the most recognised ones being: the three...

Re: Wham, Bam, thank you Bian!

Thanks, Iain.
I would defo consider the Gearr Aonach approach should I do that again.
I think from the cairn marking the descent into the lost valley it only took around just under half an hour os so to the summit of SCS. Was a good day out.

Wham, Bam, thank you Bian!

My brilliant but unpunctual hillwalking companion for this day had me flirting with the wrong side of the speed limit as we headed northbound on the clag-ridden A82 for the Three Sisters carpark. Poor timekeeping got us there for a later than planned 0900hrs and thankfully, just managed to secure a ...

Re: Duo at Dal-whinnie was Neigh Bother

Hi Daniel, You’ll be greeted with the sheep straight away once you cross the gate after crossing the road. There was maybe a couple of dozen or so scattered over a large area right up until the point where you can go left or right to either munro. I don’t recall seeing any after this point on the op...

CairFree at the Cairngorms

I surfaced well before the alarm went off after a restless sleep. I fancied a crack at making my Cairngorms debut for a while and my date with destiny had now arrived. This is Scotland at its absolute best. It totally captured the remote mountainous feel which I yearn for when out on the hills and h...

Duo at Dal-whinnie was Neigh Bother

My initial plan was to do three munros at the Cairngorms at the weekend. With it being a 3.5hr drive away and wanting my preferred early start, I didn’t fancy leaving the house at 0230 for a day on the hills. I booked a B&B at Kingussie for the night before it and with planning, realised I could...

Sgiath Chuil & Meall Glas

Consistent warm, dry days in succession had me swithering on whether to do Meall Glas & Sgiath Chuil or their northerly neighbours of Creag Mhor & Beinn Heasgarnich. The rationale being the notorious bogfests would have dried out on parts making it more bearable from a walking point of view....

Brace of munros by hook or by Cruach

Checking the weekend’s weather showed it was a day for the hills on Sunday. Had an early night on Saturday and managed to get a space at the Falls of Cruachan station at the layby running parallel with the railway line just before 8am. Heading under the railway, the steps head up before ending abrup...

Caisteal Abhail, Cir Mhor & Goatfell from North Sannox

A late rescheduling to my plans had me off to Arran for the sixth time in as many months this year. I cannot complain at having this luxury on my doorstep being from North Ayrshire. I had planned on doing three of the four corbetts on this trip and hope to return later on in year to do all four in s...

Re: Cir Mhor to Goatfell via The Saddle

The route you ask about was the route I done yesterday. I had an app on collecting my data and kept a mental note to screenshot the info when I got to wineport as I read your post on way over on ferry. Hope this helps. I then took the fisherman’s walk back and all in just under 7hrs. I will be writi...
