Re: Stretching the Sea Legs in Hammerfest

Very much enjoyed that - great photos and it took me back to my camping trip to northern Norway, including a two night stay in Hammerfest - some very familiar scenes including the reindeer walking along the road! I didn't manage a walk at Hammerfest, but I did climb a couple of peaks from our campi...

Cnoc Ceislein

Having arrived at my relatives the day before we saw that the weather forecast was meant to be half decent for the next day so a plan was hatched to visit the Fyrish monument and take a wee detour out to Cnoc Ceislein while we were at it, a sub 2000er and a trig of course it was a winning plan. $mat...

Knocking off Knockan

On my way up to visit relatives in the highlands I figured that the dogs would need a pee stop and that as that was happening I may as well knock off a sub 2000er and a trig en route. $matches[2] Well as I am sure a lot of you are aware the relentless march of the wind turbines across Moray has not ...

Stretching the Sea Legs in Hammerfest

During the summers I tend to work offshore on survey and construction vessels, mostly in the North Sea. However every so often we get to go somewhere quite interesting. One trip this summer we were sent to Hammerfest in the very north of Norway. Luckily we also were to have a couple of days alongsid...

Re: Sail Mhor: the Ugly Step

What a brilliant report! Your pictures are simply stunning. Another hill added to the list! Even if I dont go to the top, I want to just go to that corrie its gorgeous! I am not sure about the ugly step though, that looks SERIOUSLY exposed, my hands were actually sweating when I was looking at your ...

A fine hill for a dog walk

So it seems a fried of mine and I have fallen into the routine of going for nice long dog walks. Last week we persevered to find a trig point that was a bit of a bugger to get to. This week I figured we could go for something a little easier although higher. I had originally planned to do Conachcrai...

Cesars' first TWO Munros

My husband and I managed to get out on the hills together at the weekend with the dogs. We got a new puppy last September, although he has been out on the hills a few times already, but this is the first time that he has been over 3000ft! So we figured we would tick off the last of the Cairnwell Mun...

What other hills had you planned to do that day????

I had planned to do Brown Muir and or the Hill of the Wangie as they were still sitting as little red balloons on my map at this point.

They have since been conquered

A few Moray mounds

Continuing my catching up on some walk reports from earlier in the year. After my fairly hard day on the Cromdale hills the day before but still keen to tick off as many of the Moray hills as I could while based up that way I decided that a day doing some of the smaller and more isolated sub 2000s w...

A blustery bumble on the Cromdales

I finally have some time again to catch up on some of my Moray adventures that I was on earlier in the year. I found myself living for the weekends when I could get out on the hills and not be stuck in an office looking out the window, thinking I would much rather be outside than in here! So even wh...

I read your report as part of my research for this hill and I think yes the trees around the top have grown up a lot and are much harder to get through.

I wonder what happened with that couple and the bike and the car keys?

Re: A prickly time on Mount Eagle

Uh no,  I think you have to be pretty "keen" to get to the top of some of these smaller hills you know.

A prickly time on Mount Eagle

Due to the snow locking me out from the higher hills still, I decided that I would go out to the black isle to bag its only hill and a few trig points that I might pass along the way. Not really a very exciting day but a day spent mostly outside so thats always a bonus. I thought that this hill was ...

Beautiful Ben Aigan

So trying to keep up with my new years resolution to climb all the hills in Moray, doable but perhaps not in the 12 weeks that I have living here between Jan and April  I had grand plans for the weekend involving Ben Rinnes and the two Conivals.... These were dashed when the snow came and I a...

Re: Blowing away the cobwebs on Benaquhallie

I am glad that someone found this a useful report. I try to put as much detail into my route taken on the smaller hills as possible as there is not always an "official" route up some of these less exciting wee mounds.

Did you get out onto it?
