Re: Stay at home

So to summarise, the following people are getting social distancing wrong: Cyclists Runners Dog Walkers Couples Motorists I'll add another category - families. Two adults, couple of kids, maybe a pram and a dog in there too - strolling along the pavement or the canal tow path as if they own the plac...

Re: Stay at home

The government is asking for one thing whilst doing another themselves, and the law they have created to enact what they asked does a third thing still. Now THIS I don't get the logic of. If government enacts a law making murder, or domestic abuse, or fraud or whatever illegal, and then a politicia...

Re: Stay at home

.......still waiting for a logical take on this The logical take is that if everyone - not just you, everyone - just carries on as normal driving around the country willy-nilly pursuing their interests, whether it's cycling, hill-walking, surfing or whatever, then the virus will inevitably spread. ...

Re: Stay at home

I could drive an hour, walk five hours and drive an hour home - you've just described doing Ben Lomond for me. Trouble is you've described it for half a million other Glaswegians, as well as many hundreds of thousands of other folk. The only reason I would be "all alone" as you put it is ...

Re: Stay at home

The point is that the advice/rules/whatever aren't for you or me...they are for everyone. If you or me go for a two hour drive and a five mile hike then it is very unlikely that anything untoward will happen. You'd have to be very unlucky to break down, break an ankle or whatever. If EVERYONE (or ev...

Re: Stay at home

I guess the real difference is between what is technically legal (which I'm not qualified to comment on) and what is within the spirit of what we are being asked to do, which couldn't be clearer - stay at home and don't travel unless it is essential. So there is the law (very vague), there is reaso...

Re: Stay at home

with all due respect - please indicate any logical difference in (a) my cycling from my front door and (b) driving in a sealed car for half an hour then cycling from my car in rural areas :?: The difference is that in scenario 1 you are staying at home whereas in scenario 2 you aren't... This contr...

Re: Stay at home

We are being asked to stay at home and only travel for essential reasons, in order to minimise the spread of the virus. If you think it is ESSENTIAL to drive into the countryside because you're fed up walking/cycling/running from your front door and fancy a change of scenery, then that is up to you...

Re: Stay at home

Apologies if it's already been mentioned, but Scotland's Chief Medical Officer has been quoted as saying that it's acceptable to drive "short distances" for the purposes of exercise, while also emphasising the need to stay as close to home as possible. As for what constitutes a "short...

John Muir Way Day 3 - Strathblane to Croy

2020-03-19.gpx The third stage of the John Muir Way and it's tarmac and towpath almost all the way, but with a small sting in the tail at the end. 90% of the route is flat as a pancake, as you would expect for a path that follows a disused railway line and a canal for most of its length, but the fi...

John Muir Way Day 2 - Balloch to Strathblane

John Muir Way Day 2.gpx Last March I walked the first part of the John Muir Way from Helensburgh to Balloch, so I thought it was high time I tackled the second stage - at this rate I'll be hobbling into Dunbar with my zimmer frame. The train arrived in Balloch about 8.30am - I was hoping to start e...

Birns Hill

$matches[2] A walk up to the trig point on Birns Hill. A nice, sunny (but windy) few hours amid weeks of rain. A straightforward walk up a forestry track until you have to leave it and head for the hill for the last 500m or so which is a horrible tramp through unremitting bogs. Nice views from the ...

Re: Loch Lomond Views For A Novice

What about following part of the Three Lochs way from Balloch to Helensburgh? The first part has good views over Loch Lomond, later the views are more towards Loch Long and the firth of Clyde. It's a linear walk, but starting and ending at train stations, so fairly easily accessible. Obviously you ...
