Re: A Donald With a View...

Well done, that was a great walk. The large mast on Keoch Rig was not there early last year and is what is put up to assess wind speed for another wind farm. Sometimes I despair at the developments in Glen Afton - when I first visited only Windy Standard and Hare Hill had turbines......... Good luck...

Re: Walking technique - perhaps a silly question!

Not a silly question at all. I tend not to slip very much, maybe once a year, and I'm usually averaging about 40 walks a year. On the other hand I am 70+ and am slow and probably over cautious going down hill. Stiff and sometimes painful knees don't help. I find it helps if you have fairly stiff boo...

Re: Motorbikes

My first thoughts were that all I could add to this thread was the observation that the use of motorcycles by farmers, shepherds and forestry workers was quite common before the widespread introduction of ATVs. I've certainly seen shepherds in the hills using off-road motorcycles on several occasion...

Re: Tinto Hill - a grand place for the dogs first walk

Enjoyed the video and glad you liked Tinto, always good to hear from someone with 'fresh eyes' who appreciates this hill. Despite my tag, I'm not up Tinto that often, just three times so far this year. But 3/4 times a year for 20+ years does add up... Hope your new dog has fitted into the family well.

Re: Galloway Ring of fire, 30 peaks.... all 3 ranges

An amazing walk and well done, but can I gently point out that the Black Craig that you climbed ( north of Coran of Portmark and overlooking Loch Doon) at 528m, is neither a Donald or a Graham. The Donald /Graham of Black Craig is off Glen Afton and not far from New Cumnock - if you had included tha...

An unkindness

Seen above Hopetoun Craig on 22 June, a large unkindness of ravens:

However, for rest of the walk around the Ettrick Horseshoe from Bodesbeck Law to Ettrick Pen we were exultantly listening to an exaltation of skylarks.
