Re: Recommendations for rucksacks.

As above, I've got the Berghaus C7-1 and find it excellent. The Bioflex system really does make a lot of difference, especially for people like me with a knackered back. I normally carry about 16kg and have done some pretty substantial scrambling, ridge walking and steep ascent and descents without ...

Re: Quinag

The one good thing about the wind of course means that a decent progress can be made without getting too sweaty. last Thursday I walked to the falls of Glomach and there was about a 3 - 4mph wind behind me, which of course meant I was walking in no wind whatsoever. While most of the walk was on pret...

Quinag

I think I'm probably going to have to put the Quinag at the top of my favourite list to date. Despite the extreme haze and fierce wind on the days I was up there, it was still extremely enjoyable and I fully intend to return on a clearer day. I arrived late afternoon after a late start in the mornin...

Re: water purification

Milton fluid for sterilising babies bottles etc. A few drops of that in a litre of water, leave it for 15 minutes and you're sorted. A 500ml bottle will cost under a £1 and last years. Or normal household bleach will do the same, you've just got to be careful not to overdo it though.

White Mounth Munros - Fail. Lochnagar - Pass (just)

The plan had been to do the White Mounth Munros circuit - a couple of days straightforward walking enjoying some fine weather and open spaces along an uncomplicated circuit. I'd been keeping an eye on my array of bookmarked weather sites until they were all in rough agreement that we were going to h...

Re: 1st of 2011

Lovely pics. I saw my first frogspawn just up the road today... spring on the way 8) The first frogspawn I saw this year was on the path to Camasunary in the pool shown in the picture below. That was on the 27th of February, which was rather odd I thought. Especially as it went down to -5c that nig...

Re: Pap of Glencoe

Hi Alastair, The circular polariser does tend to have that uneven blue sky effect in certain conditions or at certain angles, even with my 18-70mm lense. I've got to admit though, unless it's overly pronounced it doesn't bother me that much. The sky in your picture, while clearly varying in colour d...

Re: Pap of Glencoe

Those are stunning photographs. But, can I ask, did the views actually look like that on the day or are we looking at the product of some very clever technology? I've been up lots of hills and seen lots of views in different conditions but have never seen anything so sharp as these photographs. I'm...

Re: Pap of Glencoe

Thanks for all the comments :) Some great photos there frogwell, not much snow left by the looks of it,going to head up there at weekend 8) It's disappearing rapidly now. I had been hoping for a bit more on the higher peaks - it makes for better photos. You should enter the last picture in some compe...

Pap of Glencoe

Utterly fed up with work on Friday I decided I needed to get out of the office. I didn't have enough time to do anything major, but at the same time I didn't just want to do a walk round the garden, so a quick flick through the weather sites and webcams later and I decided to head towards Glencoe, i...

Hello from Perthshire

Hello all, I've been browsing the walk highlands site for quite a while to plan various ambles. For the most part I've been a day walker with any camping done while motorbiking. This year however I decided I should really do some multi day walks, so a little credit card abuse got me a Scarp 1 and a ...
