Re: Yes Tor Day (All My Troubles Seemed So Far Away)

Enjoyed the report and nice to see someone else walking the moor!! You are absolutely right about navigating in poor Viz....a mate of mine volunteers for DRG (Dartmoor Resuce Group) and they often invite groups from other regions to events and they find navigating the moor is...challenging ...especi...

Re: A Short-ish Haytor round

Yep - it was a nice walk and apart from one very large group of ramblers around Greator I had most of it to myself which is pretty unusual in that area of the moor! PLan to do a few "moor" walks ready for your next venture out of the wilds of Wales! :D

A Short-ish Haytor round

our_route.gpx This is not a route a would normally recommend on Dartmoor -mainly because this is the Dartmoor equivalent of Pen-y Fan or Snowdon. It usually full of tourists! However, as I only had limited time available and its the nearest part of the moor to me....and I needed a walk to escape th...

Great Links Tor Round, Dartmoor

our_route.gpx Well I decided to finally get my lazy behind off the sofa and get some walking in!! This is a really nice walk around the area of Great Links Tor and certainly whilst I was there seemed to be one of the less populated areas of the moor having onlt seen two other people whilst out walk...

Re: Ingleborough

As mentioned the bosun's chair isn't a permanent feature and does go towards funding the cave rescue service as well. For those feeling brave the trip is well worth the effort as Gaping Ghyll main chamber is huge (apparently York Minster or St Pauls Cathedral would fit into it - so I was told!). As ...

Cader Idris

We did this walk on the last day of our holiday as I wasn't able to get to the trip organised by a friend of mine a couple of weeks earlier. The weather was dire - caught the beginning of the incoming tail end of hurricane Katiana so it was blowing a hoolie on the ridge to the extent that it was blo...

Church Stretton/Cardington

Again a nice walk around the Mynd area of Shropshire starting at Church Stretton - this time on the opposite side of the valley taking int the views across to Caer Caradoc. You head up through an estate and pick up a marked path that heads up past a farm into the woods and skirt around the woods unt...

Pole Bank, Long Mynd Shropshire

Spent 10 days in Shropshire on holiday in early September - so just catrching up with the diary as new member! This is a really nice walk if you fancy something a bit more gentle. Starting the walk at Church Stretton, the walk climbs steadily through a park, past a victorian reservoir and then inot ...

Re: Cadair Idris Penygadair

I did this walk on the 9th September with my wife debbie and 2 dogs. It was the day the left overs of hurricane Katiana blew in from the west!! The path is a nice walk and we just managed to get some views of the estuary at Barmouth before we completely lost the vis! We also had to put the dogs back...
