Re: Ben Lui, plus Donald Duck's other three Munro nephews

Excellent round bobble hat. We were baking over on Beinn a'Chochuill and Beinn Eunaich yesterday – not sure I would have managed these four in that heat! 8) Aye, it was hot all right - can't complain though :) - it's not often we see it like that. Once we were up Lui the route stayed fairly high fo...

The Famous Ptarmigan

The start of a whole precious week off work, and I was hoping to get some walking done ... and lo and behold, believe it or not, the weather forecast was starting to look very encouraging :D . Shurely shome mishtake... Anyway, I didn’t take twice asking and decided to have a look at the Tarmachan Ri...

The Wee Jubilee Herdsman

A Diamond Jubilee, and a strangely timed Public Holiday on the first Monday in June ... what better way to celebrate it, I was thinking, than to climb a hill or two :D ? Being based in the central belt (as most walkers are, I’d suspect, statistically speaking), my Munros to date have pretty much rad...

Western Glen Rosa: there's a Nuis loose aboot this hoose!

I had an invite to go over to Arran for the day to do a bit of walking and then have dinner with my aunt, uncle & cousins, who were all staying in one of the lodges at the Auchrannie Hotel for the week – very nice! One of my cousins was initially going to join me for the walk but he is a redhead...

Ben Lui, plus Donald Duck's other three Munro nephews

Due to some rare conjunction of the planets, the weather forecast was Set Fair and both Andy C & myself had sufficient free time for a long day on the hills :D . We opted for an attempt on Ben Lui, plus Donald Duck’s other three Tyndrum Munro nephews, Ben Oss (Huey), Beinn Dubhchraig (Dewey) and...

Re: Glen Coe initiation: Bidean nam Bian & Stob Coire Sgream

Excellent report - your photos are inspirational  ! I have the week off and had been wondering about tackling these two on Monday; I'm definitely giving it a go after seeing your report... Thon gully looks a bit slippery on descent, though :wtf: - I might try this route the other way round.

The Tinto Sprint-o from Wiston

I’d just come back on an overnight flight from a short business trip, and on descent into Glasgow it looked a lovely sunny morning, with picturesque frost over the Campsies and lots of wee fluffy white clouds ... I had to drive down to a family birthday party in Ayrshire in the afternoon, but I had ...

Re: Cir Royale

Lovely report as ever, Kevin! Ben Tarsuinn is my one remaining Arran Corbett to do - hopefully this summer - I always thought that A'Chir looked very very hard though, and certainly beyond the likes of me :wtf: . Perhaps the first time that the S.M.C. Corbetts book has been described as "mounta...

The Lubchurran Two from Kenknock

Out on my own again - Andy C was away ski-ing with the family (or maybe he was in the huff after my poor showing on the Glen Lyon group at the beginning of March, when we only managed 3 out of 4 :( ) - so I was looking to get a relatively easy two-bagger done on the Good Friday public holiday. I thi...

Re: The Hills Have Sighs...

Very nice report as usual, Polly :) . Your soup looks right tasty too. I did these two yesterday - I agree that wee road up Glen Lochay is surprisingly hard to find from Killin :wtf: - I discovered (accidentally) that following the NTS sign for the Murlaganmore Longhouse takes you onto another minor...

Re: Ben Chonzie from Loch Turret

mice get a millionfold more tumours than elephants, adjusted for weight ... . so why's that then???? Since you ask ... controlling tumours actually requires a lot of energy expenditure at the molecular level. If you are a small, short-lived organism like a mouse, it doesn't make evolutionary ...

Ben Chonzie from Loch Turret

Ben Chonzie has the reputation of being, um, an "unexciting" hill :-| :however, not being an experienced winter walker, I reckoned it was plenty exciting enough for me in January. I was up in Crieff for a very welcome weekend break with a group of old friends, including my usual hillwalkin...
