Cadair Idris by Minffordd Path

As it's 3 months since I set foot on a mountain I thought it was about time I got my a*** back in gear, especially as I was planning on a trip to Scotland in the first week in Februay and hoped to improve on last year's haul of 45 munros (in 3 trips). Plus I needed to break in my Scarpa SLs (that I ...

Re: Big Steps and Bad Steps on the Aonach Eagach

Nice photos - the two munros along the Aonach Eagach were my first about 10 years ago (and 8 years before I decided to start collecting munros). I quite fancy doing this again on a nice day and from east to west (I did it the other way round which had a couple of awkward downward steps). Are you com...

October sun and scrambling fun

With the warm weather set to continue at least until Saturday I couldn't miss the chance to head for the hills. This time I decided to take my time for a change, take in the views and maybe even a few photos. I asked my 14 year old (Joe) to come along and he agreed without too much persuasion, and h...

Ben Challum

A quick blast up and down Ben Challum as a warm up for the tour of Kintail to follow. Once finished drove to Cluanie inn then caught the bus back along the A87 to Lundi before ascending to Carn Glusaid to wild camp at the summit.

Ben Lui - Snow at the summit - ice-cream at the bottom

A bit late posting this write up, but just taking the opportunity to update my walk reports for the year - quite happy to have bagged over 40 munros in three trips this year :D . After being driven back by the snow with Neil on Beinn Dubhchraig in February I returned in April with Joe intend on bagg...

Beinn a Chleibh

After driving up to Crianlarich I decided to knock off Beinn a Chleibh that afternoon to shorten the walk the following day (as I had my 14 year son with me). Weather was beautiful and we set off in shorts and t-shirts, from the A85 straight up the northern flank. This side still has a fair covering...

Tour of Kintail (Day 3) - the saddle without the ridge

After re-charging the batteries at the Kintail lodge hotel (a fantastic breakfast of smoked salmon) we set off with thumbs out on the A87. At the Shiel Bridge garage a car that had passed us a few moments earlier had stopped and the two lads in it offered us a lift, which we gratefully accepted (the...

Tour of Kintail (Day 2) - 5 Sisters and no lift

After a hard day in the sun yesterday this was another difficult slog in scorching temperatures; once again I was quickly out of water and dreadfully thirsty for most of the walk. our_route.gpx Our high camp the night before meant that it was a mre hop, skip and a jump to Aonach Meadhoin and a relat...

Tour of Kintail (Day 1) North of Loch Cluanie

A very short report to update my walks report for the year. On Saturday night we set off from the roadside along Loch Cluanie for Carn Glusaid. After the quick blast up Ben Challum earlier in the day, a heavy pack and some late afternoon sunshine the climb to the summit had me sweating and as I was ...

I'll leave it to you to write the next report as the funny man in the duo; although that makes me Ernie Wise or even worse Sid Little :?

I'd be keen to join you - I live in north Wales so could just drive up on the day. Any idea what routes you might be doing?

Re: Lochnagar on a sunny day.

Nice report and good to see the views I missed out on when I did the white mounth circuit the weekend before - I'll add this to my list of munros to do again on a clear day.

Mount Keen by Glen Tanar

To finish off our trip Neil and I decided to bag a ‘cheeky munro’ on the Sunday morning before the journey home. We decided on Mount Keen given that we were staying in Braemar and it would save having to make a special trip for this isolated hill on another occasion. In addition we had our bikes, wh...
