Re: The rolling hill of Galloway Forest Park- a hidden gem
I might be splitting hairs here but I would not characterise Shalloch on Minnoch as " A hidden gem " as it is seen quite prominently from the minor road south of Stinchar Bridge, which also has a good carpark (marked on my OS 77) from where SoM is easily climbed - without squeezing into an...

Heron
This heron was more intent on fishing than worrying about walkers yesterday next to the Logan Burn, Pentland Hills. As you can see the strong wind was ruffling its feathers.

Re: New Munro?
Who would be the first intrepid Munroist to climb it if it landed gently on the Cairngorm Plateau?

Merlin
My usual view of merlins is when they fly past going somewhere else fast, but in the Pentlands today I came across this one, not sure if it was injured or a young bird but it was not in a hurry to go:

Re: What kind of map do you prefer?
I really prefer 1:25000, but only if they are the Pathfinder sheets or older. These two are from the mid 1950s.

Re: Splashing about in the Lammermuirs
Nice walk, but are all Orcadians really time travellers? Are the pictures really from 10 days in the future?

'lost' Coal Tit
I was out on Broad Law today and spotted this coal tit on the hillside at about 770m. Quite a long way from its typical habitat...but it seemed quite happy foraging in the grass. I don't carry a camera with a zoom lens, so have had to severely crop the second photo, which was taken 3 seconds after t...

Pacer poles left behind at Tinto carpark today, 10/07/21
I absentmindedly left behind my well used Pacer poles either at the main carpark (against the logs on the east side) or about 6-800? meters to the west on the south side of the minor road that runs along the north side of Tinto. I'll probably take a trip back tomorrow to check, but if you come acros...

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)
Roderick Ross CVO CBE KPM (24 May 1865 – 6 March 1943) was Chief Constable of Edinburgh City Police from 1900 to 1935. So they had being Chief Constable in common. He had previously been Chief Constable in Margate Better to give it to 1/2M 1/2T as he really cracked it. That’s very generous, as I wo...

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)
Robert Rollock and William Milligan were both moderators of the Church of Scotland, but at very different times. Neither anywhere near. Both RR and WM were born 19th century and died 20th century. Could this be the police detective William Merrilees, who wrote The Short Arm of the Law? No idea who ...

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)
RR at one time worked in Ramsgate, while the better known WM got the BRB, that should set the hares running! "the hares running", was just a reference to your fingers running over the keyboards seeking the answers, not a clue as such. But in fact RR and WM might have been interested in st...
