I keep getting above message with another request , do I want to allow walkhighlands to use my location. I accept this and allow but keep getting the geolocation one . I’ve gone into privacy and location under settings in iOS as you advised on someone’s question but there is no option to allow walkh...

Re: RESOLVED | Bug - or I'm a donkey

So I think I’m being another donkey. I too have iOS and when I follow the instructions all I get is”location access on all websites” which was on ask but I put to allow. There is nothing else like the screenshot above that shows walkhighlands? I have the os app which shows my location and compass ? ...

Re: Glasses

Using electronic navigational aids and being able to zoom in helps me big time… I was prescribed contact varifocal lenses but I couldn’t wear them. I have to go with my varifocal glasses. Spec savers do the 2 specs deal and I have a “hardier” pair I use for when hillwalking. I do have my map and com...

Re: Cape Wrath trail with a dog

I also recommend Hounds of Howgate. Its entertaining and very useful! I have done the CWT with my dog and she was great company. She has the ruffwear pallisades pack which is detachable from the harness. Useful and I would decant food daily into it so it wasn’t too heavy for her and she still had a ...

Re: Tips and advice for a solo backpacker

I have been solo wild camping for many years now. I started with a heavier lightweight tent and the more I enjoyed the experience I slowly upgraded to lighter weight gear. At the minute and for the distant future coz I think its a great bit of kit, is the Alpkit Koro titanium stove. I use a titanium...

Re: Buzzard Attack!!

When I lived in Shetland , Bonxies (the Great Skua) could be quite brutal. We would walk with walking poles up the way like holding an umbrella or indeed an umbrella which did deter quite successfully :-) . Not sure how that would work with Buzzards. Worth a try tho.

Re: Need a trail recommendation

I would as others suggest , consider the WHW. Its a good option at that time of year for again the reasons mentioned. You are not far from camping spots although if you are coming the end of October some camp sites if you plan on using them might close so worth checking. A shorter route but a lovely...

Re: Dog GPS tracker

Can I add as well that a cheap option to help is to attach falconry bells? You do get used to the noise but I would advise taking them off if you are camping with the dog or its jingle bells all night :-),,, oh the Garmin collar comes in small sizes. A light can also be activated if in the event the...

Re: Dog GPS tracker

Very expensive option is the Garmin Atemos 100 or 50 with their K5 collar. OR, go all out and get the new Alpha 200i with K5 collar which gives you a fully effective gps satellite unit for you and that also links with the collar for the dog. This does not require a phone signal and range is advertis...

Re: What dogs, are good hill dogs ?

I am a collie fan. One of my old collies some years ago went on an unplanned and unagreed date with a Rottweiler and I ended up with one of the pups. He turned out to be my bestest friend and a fantastic hill dog. He and my other border collie (rescue) did many a munro and wild camp. Both were unres...

Re: Ultra-light on the Cape Wrath Trail

Being that my hooves and hinges are getting beyond a joke but I still use them,,, Robin’s video is very good so all I can add being that I am in the rusty brigade is that you don’t scrimp too much? Its a long way and a hard trail. I took a thermarest neoair and a 3/4 closed cell foam for my dog that...

Re: Recommendation - tent for 1 man and dog

I would also suggest that whatever you do ,, go for a two man tent. I do a fair bit of long distance multi day walks and have accumulated a couple of tents over the years. You will appreciate the extra room. I have the MSR freelite 2 and the Nordisk 2.2. My old dog cant really join me now but both t...

Re: First highlands May 2022 - Midges, ticks, car rental

Re the dreaded midge. You should be ok up until the last week in May where they may be starting their quest for human blood. All depends on temps tho. Midge nets bought from over here have much tighter netting. Midgies have been known to infiltrate the mosquito net. No problems tho if there is a dec...
